Does anyone know what this wine review means by bandaid and vegetal?
https://www.vivino.com/wineries/le-hameau/wines/sauvignon-blanc-2013
I got this wine while back, but this year, RTC in As, opened tonight and only had first few sips and not keen hence me looking for reviews.
This is what google found:
The Aroma and Flavour of Brett Character
But what is Brett character and how and why does it appear in some wines? The wine character described as "Bretty" comes in various forms. It is the combined result of the creation of a number of compounds by the yeast Brettanomyces bruxellensis, and its close relative, Dekkera bruxulensis. The three most important known aroma active compounds are 1) 4-ethyl phenol (4-ep), which has been variously described as having the aromas of Band-aids®, antiseptic and horse stable 2) 4-ethyl guaiacol (4-eg) which has a rather pleasant aroma of smoked bacon, spice or cloves and 3) isovaleric acid which has an unpleasant smell of sweaty animals, cheese and rancidity. Other characters associated with Brett include wet dog, creosote, burnt beans, rotting vegetation, plastic and (but not exclusively caused by Brett) mouse cage aroma and vinegar.

Hi All
Trying to catch up on all the amazing offers here, this thread moves so fast..

Roadkill 17 £56.58 2016-£62.28 2015- £84.20)

It's better than the normal offer prices, but I think we should be aiming, as the Elite, to do better than merely normal offers. £2.93 / 4 = 73.25p per bottle, but that is nearly 84p per bottle when adjusted back to the 2L versions that we have been deprived of for probably a couple of years. I've seen, at best, offer prices of 84p on a bottle (rare though) and not having to buy four in the past under the 2L. So, this is not really better.0

I am very close to pouring it down the sink after reading that. :rotfl:
I only have a tiny glass tonight and I am just half way through it now, it's not getting any better.0 -

Looks like you got off lightly there then.
I mean, wet dog and mouse cage not present?:eek::rotfl::rotfl:“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
Vs T and M
1x ASDA Coarse Ardennes Pate (200G) £1.00 £1.00
I have noticed the comparable item in M, but perhaps this is a narrow miss-out as maybe not quite good enough for me:think:.0 -

I have been sniffing it and I can catch the Elastoplast, tasting it the same with vinegar. I won't be having another glass in fact don't think I will be finishing this one.
I tell you it is worse than the Weight Watchers I got in a mystery box once. :eek:0 -
Going to say goodnight.
Will expect a wake up call from PD. :rotfl:
Sweet dreams Elite. :A0 -
There are comparisons back on the Dr Oetker pizzas vs £1.50 at Sains:
2x Dr Oetker Pepperoni & Salame Ristorante Pizza (320GR) £5.00 £3.00
Don't get too excited though:D - that is two paid for at full £2.50 each - no mbuy for them on the receipt. However, they are surely going back to mbuy at some stage and need to be caught at the right time. I hope this is not a "[Strike]£2.50[/Strike] £1.49" situation next time in A.
They keep buying £1 Walkers crisps:(. If you bought five packs of those to get the equivalent of a box of 30, it would be a total cost of £5:eek:. It's way beyond Elite pricing.
1x Walkers Roast Chicken Crisps (6X25G) £1.00 £1.50
Some mbuys from A which did lose out. And this is just standard 9 pack at usual expensive £1 offer price:laugh::
1x Twix Fingers (207G) £1.68 £1.00
However, this really helped make Sains cheaper:D - if only by a few pence:(: but result was another over £5 back!:T:money::j:beer:
2.14x ASDA Butcher's Selection Lamb Leg Bone In Joint (Typically 2.2 kg) (PER KG) £13.86 £10.70:T
Well, there we are: that's a surprise! The best receipt of the bunch was the one with the mbuys that I thought would probably make it lose overall but it turns out to have that lamb about £3 cheaper. The comparable bills are over £50, and it results in giving 10% of that amount: which is a bit over £5!
Still waiting for my first double figures womble:rotfl:. Best I've ever had so far was a £9.78 probably a couple of years ago.0
