Pumping up the tyres
Comments
-
I use my local Sainsbury - where the air is free.
I usually set them a couple of psi over then adjust accurately with my own analogue dial gauge when I get home and the tyres have cooled down.
Most tyre manufacturers say to check every 2 weeks.0 -
Before putting money in, check that you can reach the furthest tyre, then remove the valve caps first, that way you only need 20p (usually)0
-
As above, if you had 12psi in it you'd be able to stand on the tyre and compress it.0

Make a habit of checking tyres. £7 foot pump and £5 digital gauge will last a very long time and no more queuing at garages. Plus there's a lot of water in those outdoor compressors and all that moisture is pumped into the tyre.0

Hah - sound like my little sister. She had a little metro as her first car, came over Christmas day. I took one look at the front drivers side tyre, got out the pressure gauge. 14psi. Dug out the footpump and, being a caring and considerate older brother, it being Christmas and the season of goodwill, handed it to her to clip on herself and pump her own tyre up.
15 mins later, rather warm in her Christmas finery and heels, one chipped nail, and grubby hands, she'd learnt an important lesson (and applies it regularly some 15 years on) about checking tyres ...0 -
I just keep one of these in the boot of my car :

It's a no-brainer for a fiver, and it's handy should I ever get a puncture, need to use the spare and find it's a bit soft ( yes, I know we should be checking our spare on a regular basis, but having this in the boot makes it a lot less hassle ).0 -

I last checked end of October using the eBay cig lighter air pump so not that long ago considering I've only done a couple of hundred miles since then.I use my local Sainsbury - where the air is free.
ASDA is less than 1 mile away, nearest Sainsburys with a petrol station is 16 miles or so away. Before putting money in, check that you can reach the furthest tyre, then remove the valve caps first, that way you only need 20p (usually)
Yes I do, I've used this pump many times before so know the score. I meant it took 2 x 20p's as it took longer to fill the tyres up with air what with them being so low!0 -
Somebody has a very relaxed attitude to vehicle safety and preventative maintenance,
You would only need to look at the tyres to see the pressure was too low if they were that low, also it must have affected the handling.
