Best Offer expired?

I received a notification email yesterday at 21:51 stating that a best offer was made on the following item: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231779136916?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

At 21:52 I received an email stating that the item did not sell (the time expired). Therefore I relisted the item.

Is it impossible to accept a best offer after the selling time has expired? Is someone just teasing me by making an offer one minute before the expiry? I emailed the user asking them to make another offer of the same amount at 21:53 but I received no response.

You get some chancers at times, saying I'll give you £20 for your £40 item if it doesn't sell, and quite frequently itis like 5 min before the listing is due to end. Hope you get some response back from them.

All offers, both from buyers and sellers expire as soon as listing finishes.

A lot of buyers search by 'ending soonest' so may well have just seen the item and chanced it on the basis you might have been online.
