Argos - return item

I purchased a cordless Morphy Richards vacuum from Argos about 5 weeks ago. It was fine to begin with and worked well, both the main part and its detachable hand held hoover. However, recently we have noticed that it doesnt seem to pick everything up. I now can't find the receipt (I did pay by debit card though) and would like to return it to Argos. Does anyone if a) I can return it with my bank statement and ask for a replacement or b) can I return it and ask for a different model and pay the difference (we will go back to a dyson)?

You can do/try either but unless there's a specific fault with the machine, rather than it being just not that great, then it's down to the goodwill of the seller whether they will do anything for you.
  • Yes, you are right. But it was fine (we knew it wasn't going to be of Dyson standard) and picked up the various bits on the floor but now it just seems to glide over some of it. I wondered if I do a video showing it not picking up then they can't really argue.

Have you been through the manual to find out what could be causing the loss of suction? Have you fully cleaned the filter? (Just looked at manufacturer guidelines for a MR cordless and it says to tap out the dust from filter each time the dust canister is emptied and once a month a full filter clean by washing with warm water and allowing to air dry completely). Have you checked the brush bar and any pipes for blockages?

Has it lost suction both as an upright and cordless or just one part?

It may be worth contacting Morphy Richards directly as sometimes they can let you know what the problem may be and often send out a new part.

Why is a person that handles your money called a broker?!
  • Yes we've done all of that. As we use it so often throughout the day we empty it each time. There are no blockages. To put your hand on the suction area, it feels ok, it just isn't picking much up. I have done a video and you can see it not working, or picking up and then leaving bits elsewhere.

I wonder if it is a case of you get what you pay for. We only paid £100 so perhaps its had its day :(

I will give MR a call though and see if we have missed something.
