O/S Daily Thread Thursday 10th December

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all

Insomnia strikes again, but this time it's hubby's fault, he's thrashing about and talking in his sleep, something must be bothering him.

I managed to buy 3 more onesies yesterday, I will try to get the last few after work today.

I'm going to read a while & see if I can get back to sleep.

Have a good day everyone.

Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

HH - hope you managed to get some sleep x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Still dark, but dry and blustery, keep hearing the wind howling round the house. Turned colder yesterday too.

Dinner last night was HM ham and mushroom and pepperoni pizza, chips, salad, coleslaw, chicken and bacon pasta salad and garlic bread, choc birthday cake for dessert. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed making and then tasting the results of what I'd made. I use a bread maker to make pizza dough - it tastes fantastic. I also use the bread maker to just make the bread dough, it takes an hour and a half to knead and prove the bread, then I take the dough out knead it and put it onto a baking tray and bake it in the oven, the loaf is a much bigger loaf and it tastes so much better, but I haven't made any for ages. DS1 asked at the weekend when we got back from my bro's and sil's could I start making bread again. Yesterday, I bought more bread flour and some new yeast, so will probably make a loaf today or tomorrow. I need to have a major sort out in my kitchen, so that's on the "to do" list not sure when that will be though.

Today I need to crack on with the washing, drying and ironing, run the hoover over and go and do some more xmas shopping or do some online - not sure which yet. I need to get the shopping done and finished though. I might have a ride to a shopping outlet a few miles away - it's all outside but has a good variety of shops.

Dinner tonight will be lamb in a minted rosemary gravy, mash, carrots, cauli and broc. Choc birthday cake for dessert.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. I hope you got back to sleep HESTER. I had another bad night too and by 4.45 I knew sleep wasn't coming back so just got up.

I have been putting my time to good use by Xmas menu planning and sorting out what is still to buy. I thought I had bought a lot already but seem to have ended up with quite a list! Well two lists really - one for Ald* and another for Sainsbobs. So that's what on the agenda for this morning.

I have an appointment this afternoon for a much needed cut & blow so my next job is touching my roots up! I'd rather pay £2.60 for a colour from Savers than pay silly money for the hairdresser to do it.

A few tears were shed yesterday at the Nativity play! I'm the same every year! Big softie that I am! DGD played Mary beautifully and looked so pretty in her outfit. Though she said afterwards she would have preferred to be an angel as they had nicer dresses!! The teachers earn my admiration for their patience - not one prompt was needed, no-one forgot their lines and all sang beautifully.

We seem to have the wind and rain back with us again this morning and my heart goes out to all those flooded out in Cumbria. It couldn't happen at a worse time could it.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))) to those wanting/needing them. Take care xx

    Morning All

Another one up early, I have made my pigs in blankets and put them in the freezer - one less job to do come the festivities. DW emptied, managed to get a load of washing through the poorly machine last night although it wouldn't do the fast spin - nothing urgent so it can dry on the airer. Thought I was on a roll and put some bedding in - I am now left with a load of wet washing as it wont turn at all, serves me right!

Gave DDs room a good clean and tidy round ready for visitors so that's another room ready, I'll try to clean all the kitchen cupboards this week/end, the rest of the house wont take long. I think DD is coming over on Sunday to put the tree up.

Had my eyebrows waxed yesterday, how can that make you feel so much better?! Also bought a work colleague a 30th birthday present - a basket for her bike, I remember her saying in the summer when she saw mine that she would like one, just need to work out how to wrap it!

Loving the carols tru, look forward to singing along each morning!

Another storm last night but seems calmer today, still wet though. Take care. XX
  • Morning all, another sleepless person here. I have lots to do so may spend much of the day in prevarication.
Camelot - would it go in a box?
I must make my pizza dough in a minute, I don't have a breadmaking machine so I just do it the old-fashioned way. If I had one, I would certainly use it but we would eat bread all the time.
My whole face is one massive yawn.
Hope everyone has a good day

    Good morning everyone.

It's been raging all night again and I've just heard Carol Kirkwood say that more heavy rain will come into the west of Scotland today. Yeugh! A stay at home day I think.

No real plans so will wait to see what the day brings.

Thanks for the song tru, it brings back old old memories.

Whatever the day brings I hope that everyone has a good one.
  • Good morning, thank you Hester for starting us off.

A fairly sleepless night was had here. It has been blowing a hoolie since before we went to bed last night, we have had some rain, but not at the moment.

We have some stuff of DGD1s to deliver to the Hospice shop, and will take them a tin of biscuits in as well, I always do this because the volunteers are usually lovely and the lady Manager always gives me a hug.

We then have to pop to B**ts to pick up our prescriptions and Himself wants to go to big T*sco for some photographic paper. DGD1 is using up holiday so she is off this afternoon and tomorrow, not sure what she is doing except she has an eye test booked for tomorrow afternoon.

Thank you Tru for the lovely carols this week

Stay safe everyone and keep warm

    Morning everyone,

Dry here at the moment, sunrise just touching the clouds pink, girls all walked but are still charging round the house playing.

Hugs to all poor folk who are not sleeping well at the moment.

Had a lovely day yesterday what with riding Bill in the morning and then spending the afternoon with my DM. Only bug bear was trying to park at the hospital, her appointment was at 3.45 just as visiting times were kicking off and the car parks were rammed. Ended up parking off site and walking through, good job that DM's mobility has improved and she was happy to have a short stroll. Her actual appointment took ages and we didn't get out until after 5 but no matter. Just did a quick tea of chicken and rice.h

Need to go through the house today and get some washing done, will put it on the airers though as rain is predicted, nothing compared to what others are putting up with though, my heart goes out to those poor folk in Cumbria.

Am out tonight, meeting up with a couple of friends for a pizza. I still have my taste card, one of my benefits from ex work place and valid through to next year so will make sure to use that to get some money off for us all. My DOH will just have to play freezer bingo.

Hope everyone has a good day, thanks for the carol Tru x
  • Good Morning everyone, seem to have picked up a virus and am feeling abysmal, very cold (but I'm hot) and very blocked so am going to have a very easy day and not go out unless I have to. Back tomorrow hopefully feeling like me again, Lyn xxx.
