  • Pity the poor Skye representative who will deal with my ire tomorrow. I am a person's worst nightmare in those situations.

Disclaimer: not cos I'm evil or mean - I'm just very politely insistent with a well-reasoned argument that can't be dismissed easily! :rotfl:

Middle class?! I might have gone up in the world! :D

I didn't get on to them this morning - had a bit of a lie in (:o) due to the ridiculous wind snapping a broken fence panel back and forth (another thing for me to repair. :(:rotfl:)

Anyone else getting lots of wind? I've given up naming them now. We were at Jonas but somehow went backwards to Gertrude. Aren't they supposed to go forward alphabetically one letter at a time?

The wind has been ridiculous! I've given up listening to podcasts while walking the dogs because I can't hear it with the wind. (I do have crappy headphones, though, £2.37 on eb@y!)
  • To be fair, HS, I think even top quality ones would struggle!

  • So...bad news: car is more poorly than previously thought. Diagnosis and car doctor's bill are still outstanding, though.

It's been an absolutely rubbish day (so bad that copious amounts of chocolate have only just made it a *tiny* bit better). I'm going to eat a nice(ish) dinner and tell myself it could be worse.

It could. The electricity might have cut out sooner after me leaving home this afternoon and I might have had no frozen food left when I got back.

Sorry your day was rubbish! At least today should be better by comparison (I hope!).

We had a very windy time of it as well, the first time I've been glad of our horrible gigantic leylandii. Luckily our damage was limited to me having to pick up bits of plastic recycling in the dark, in the mud, in the rain :D
  • Thanks HS & Ed.

Well, it has been a while. My car is really, really poorly and is taking quite a while to repair. I'm not sure what it will cost to repair yet, but it's looking like £30th, unless I'm very lucky.

A uni friend came to visit at the weekend and we went to a craft show where I got really quite spend. I'll let you know how much when I find my diary.:o

This was really very naughty and I should rightfully be very ashamed of myself.

Also, public transport is costing me quite a lot (although I have managed to score some free bus rides :D) and my power company have tried landing me with a humongous electric bill for the period I had the prepayment metre plus bills not relating to me as far back as 2012. Absolute barstewards!:mad::mad::mad:

  • Hello everyone!

    It has been...a while. Again.

Things went a bit mental after the car broke down. I ended up having to replace it. I'm sad as I really liked my old car and its replacement has more miles on the clock (), but needs must.

I haven't been keeping an eye on the finances as much as I should. I don't feel as though I have been doing as much of anything as I should, to be honest as I've been running round like a headless chicken.

I've been having a really long think this past few months and I have come to the conclusion that I have spread myself too thinly. I can't keep trying to do it all, but not able to focus on any one area as much as I would like.

I have therefore decided that when I have finished this academic year I will be deferring for next year in order to sort out my finances, health and get this house into something like decent shape.

This has been a fairly big decision but it feels like the right one.

The only thing I'm a bit scared of is that I'll make a plan to get all of these things sorted in the next year then won't *quite* get round to doing them.

This simply cannot happen. I feel as though I have reached the *crunch* point and now I need to get things sorted once and for all.

    And so to today.

I've just opened a regular savings account with 5% interest. I'm only paying a nominal fee into it, but it should enable me to save a little to one side.

I've looked into getting one of those 123 accounts that everyone thinks are great but if I'm honest, it won't work brilliantly for me, but I definitely need a decent current account so I need to look again for a better option.

I've put £175 to one side for the sale of a small table I no longer need and the refund on my car tax for my old car. (That hasn't actually been refunded yet so I may need to transfer it back but it's a start.)

I've also set up some standing orders to move money out of my current account for bills and the difference between what my rent was and my mortgage is so I can't spend it willy-nilly.

This means that I still haven't set up my life insurances etc. on the house which is INSANE so I need to get a doctor's appointment so I can get on with this. I can no longer put it off cos I'm afraid the answer might not be as pretty as I would like. It won't get any better dawdling, but that bus of misfortune that everyone alludes to could indeed knock me over tomorrow. (How cheery! :p)

Also, I need some pricey dental work. I'm deeply unimpressed.

On the up side, I have really enjoyed planting pretty plants.
You have *no* idea how happy this has made me! :D

And I bought a terrimundi! :D I have always wanted one but could never justify the stupid prices. I saw one for sale for £1.99 at the weekend and much as I knew it was naughty I bought it. (I have conflicting ideas about paying out money for a receptacle for saving.) I hope, like a nice dress for a posh event encourages ladies not to eat that appetising chocolate cake, that it will encourage me to save...the little tag that came with it said that it can fit over £1000 in £2 coins in, so that is clearly what is going in. I'll feel less bad about breaking it at the end that way, but I'm slightly miffed at the interest the money could be earning! :rotfl:

That's quite an update. Some of it is good, some of it is bad but I need to keep updating my diary here and start playing more of a long-ball game.

See you soon....it's long past bedtime!
