hi, i work at a fast food restaurant.
we are going to be deducted pay from our wages as fake notes are going through the tills.
this is now the second time, the first time they deducted money, we said that we need the tools to spot them and we also have had no training on the subject.
this time around we want to stand our ground as we have not been given any pens or those blue lighting units some places use.
they keep refusing to supply us with anything to stop them getting through.
we are going to raise a greivance about this, any help is appreciated, thanks

I know once I got on a bus and he told me a pound was fake and couldn't accept it as any fakes found he had to pay it out his own pocket (fair enough not accepting it). Also when at cheltenham someone tried to give me the most horrendous £5 note as change, soon got that sorted.
When I worked at Kwik save we had to be through. It's fairly easy to check. Lift the note upto the light, you should see the queens head. Run your finger across the silver bit - it should be raised. There's also a silver line that's threaded through notes. If you do want pens you can get 10 for £5.50 from Amazon. It's not ideal but sadly companies nowadays think it's part of our job to provide half this stuff.
The other day I had to take a service user to the hospital. Got asked who normally pays for it - well not me for sure. But if they could get away with it they would:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

Check your contract. The company can't deduct money from your wages without consent (except for overpayments of wages or expenses) so check whether this is something you specifically agreed to in your contract.
They also can't deduct more than 10% of your gross in any one pay period, even if your contract allows them to deduct for a short till - they would have to spread the deduction over more than one week / month.
Even if you find that your contracts do specify that you are liable, it would be reasonable to ask them for specific help - even if it is as minimal as paying for some of the pens or (if any of the notes were large ones) asking that they introduce a policy of not accepting £50 notes. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Any deductions that take you below minimum wage would also be illegal"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

For the sake of £2.99 I'd buy my own pen.

Banknotes have a feature for blind people that is very hard to fake.
Rub you thumb over where it says bank of England and along the crown of the queen.
The writing is raised up and the crown is indented in to the paper.
Once you notice this, any fake note stands out like a "sore thumb"
Pun intended.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

Sounds like a right stitch-up!
I would be very eager to stitch the boss up here, in a non sack-able way!
Buy 1+ fake note pens.
BEFORE he gets his mitts on the float at the end of the night (and preferably before accepting a note), be sure to use the fake note pen on EVERY SINGLE note. If possible, do this in front of manager. Also, it wouldn't harm to check all notes BEFORE the start of the shift as he may slip in a few fakies to try and palm them off on customers!
It will soon transpire as to whether you are being conned out of money, or if you are accepting fake notes too often.
That's how you make a stand!0 -

Treat every note as possibly fake and ask a manager to attend at the till and check and sign it as genuine before accepting it.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
