I agree that it sounds like it is wear and tear, I've just checked mine and the cycle count is 480 and I will have had it four years in January and hasn't even dropped from healthy to normal.

The 1000 cycle count is not for a battery to retain full capacity but the total life expectancy. To be at 700 of the expected 1000 cycles and still have 50% battery health us actually pretty good, if it was linear depreciation you would only have 30 capacity now.

    They're not Quoting 1,000.

Besides, consumable items will not be expected to last forever. Like it or not, a notebook battery is a consumable item, factors that affect lifespan include things like heat and usage.

Either pay apple to replace the battery or do it yourself. SoGA won't cover you in this case.

We've just had an iPhone replaced that was 23 months old as the battery has expanded in the device and forced the screen off.

Warranty is up at the beginning of January 2016.

They were very easy to deal with and didn't make any excuses. I would definitely give their customer services a ring (or use their online system).

Sorry, just realised I'm a couple of weeks late but if you're still not sure what to do, contact them, they're really decent.
  • Maxiee, yours was a failure, the batteries as designed to fail like that.

The OP's (likely) hasn't failed, it's just drawing to the end of it's life as a consumable item.
