Contactless debit card query,

I guess the banks have decided that the upside was better than the risks. The same applied for a long time regarding "chip and pin", where adopting the technology was deemed more expensive than the fraud generated without it. The UK was 15 years late in adopting it compared to France.
I don't think people have any liability for contactless payments, given that no signature or PIN are used, so it's 100% on the banks0 -
So given my current experience, yes it is possible for anyone finding the card to use it contactlessly until it's reported lost or stolen. Not very good security these days. Could depend on the bank and/or the user though.
You may be right. It's also possible though that the bank's security programs are clever enough to notice the difference between your pattern of spending and that of a thief. They might look at the retailers you use, the amounts you spend and your location. I've no evidence for this but it seems possible.0
