Faulty Elster meter
I live in a new build property, it's extremely energy efficient. So much so that my gas Central heating hasn't been used yet. Everything else is electric. My property was fitted with a Elster smart electric meter by Eon, however I changed to OVO energy when I moved in. All my appliances are brand new and energy efficient AA+ rated such as heat pump dryer and induction hob. Yet my bills are very high. My energy company agree with me and I've paid for a test on the meter to be carried out in a few weeks. I've been out of my house overnight with next to nothing switched on and the bill is always around 30kw/h per day. I've noticed a street light outside my property and my increasing bills are coinciding with the street light being on longer.
Does anyone think it could be this or any other ideas?

Do you regularly read your meter or just wait for a ill to come in and wonder why it's as high as it is.
If you don't monitor you own consumption then you won't know what is using it all and won't be able to do anything about itNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
What is your actual annual kWh usage? 30kWh per day is 10,950Kwh pa, which would be incredibly high for a property with gas CH and DHW. About 3 times the average.
Is your DHW also produced by the gas boiler, since this is the second biggest consumer of power.
Your streetlamp theory is not really credible, as the circuit would need to run from the meter back to the street column. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Very unlikely you are powering a street light, BUT, I had an aunt on a council estate who always complained about her leccy bills, it wasn't till she turned her power off before going away for 3 weeks and the street light crew attended to see why two street lights weren't working, that it was found that they were wired from supply side of her meter0

My electric oven (40 mins), microwave (10mins), tumble drier (2hrs), washing machine (2 loads I think) and dishwasher (1 run), energy efficient lighting (10hrs not including my christmas tree or outside lights) all running, big TV (6hrs) with about 5 hours of 500w generation from my panels logged 21kwh yesterday.
Is your house a semi?Tim0
