I listed exactly the projection shown by my old supplier. I cannot work why they want to take as little as possible even though I am asking to take more by DD. It does not make financial sense.

I think you've missed the point. I have previously sent in meter readings and they have also come to read the meter. The fact that they haven't changed the Direct Debits despite me highlighting it to them is what i'm complaining about. Also I am not disputing that I owe them money. I just think it's the way that they have handled it is wrong.
I agree they could have handled it better. You could see you weren't paying enough, were providing readings and they didn't change the DD. Fortunately it was in your favour and you know you owe them for your energy usage. My supplier (a different one) proposed reducing my DD a few months back. I knew I was paying enough to cover my annual usage, if it were close to the previous year's, and had to phone them to tell them not to adjust it. They did then leave it alone and I'm still on track to have a zero balance by the end of the contract.
I feel you have a justified complaint, not for any compensation, but to highlight their failure and the fact that it could easily push less savvy customers into debt and thereby lose them the option to switch to another supplier.
