Aug 2007: Recommended CD-Rs & CD-R Retailers?

Options
[To MSE: I know this probably isn't allowed, but I've copied this posting (mine) to here, as there wasn't any response on the Consumables board.]
.....................................
Hi,

I'm looking for a spindle of 50-ish non-printable CD-Rs of reasonable quality/price. Others, on MSE, have recommended Taiyo Yudens-manufactured CD-Rs or those manufactured by Mitsubishi (for Verbatim(?) and Philips(?)). Should I, also/instead, look for "Titanium"-branded CD-Rs?

I'm willing to pay a little bit extra if the reliability can be guaranteed.

Which of the following retailers (that don't charge an arm and a leg for postage) would people recommend?:

http://www.memorymegastore.com/searchResults2.asp?searchtype=3&andor=0&tabSelect=TAB4&searchvalue=cdrall&offset=15;

I know the price can vary hugely, especially for a small order of 50.

Thanks for any help.

Ploughing through the above sites, these seem to be recommended, as far as I can gather:

Verbatim (Taiyo Yuden) CD-R 48X Pastel
    svp.co.uk £7.74 (P&P £3.99)
    discsexpress.com £7.40 (P&P £3.75)

    Verbatim "DataLifePlus"
    svp.co.uk £6.99 (P&P £3.99)
    aprmedia.com £7.21 (P&P £3.47)
    diskdepot.co.uk £6.99 (P&P £ )
    ukdvdr.co.uk £7.99 (P&P £5.96)
    memorymegastore.com £5.49 (P&P £3.95)

    Verbatim "ExtraProtection"
    burn-media.co.uk £6.05 (P&P £3.99)
    aprmedia.com £6.85 (P&P £3.47)
    ukdvdr.co.uk £6.99 (P&P £5.96)
    discsexpress.com £6.70 (P&P £3.75)

    Datawrite Titanium
    svp.co.uk £4.99 (P&P £3.99)
    burn-media.co.uk £3.88 (P&P £3.99)
    dvdshoponline.co.uk £4.79 (P&P £4.99)
    bigmaggot.co.uk £3.98 (P&P £5.96)
    discsexpress.com £4.16 (P&P £3.75)
    cd-rmedia.co.uk £3.62 (P&P £3.20)

    Bulkpaq
    burn-media.co.uk £3.98 (P&P £3.99)
    diskdepot.co.uk £4.99 (P&P £ )
    bigmaggot.co.uk £3.98 (P&P £5.96)
    discsexpress.com £4.16 (P&P £3.75)

It seems as if those manufactured by Taiyo Yuden or Mitsubishi (MCC) can be relied upon, but not those manufacured by CMC (according to posters on MSE).

I'm sure many others must be just as reliable.

I've never had any problems with SVP either (apart from when I ordered some slimline jewel cases, and a significant proportion of them turned up broken).

I'd also stick with TY. My own personal preference is for the Plextor branded variety but they've been a bit hard to come by lately.
