O/S Daily Wednesday 9th December 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work early. DS1 taking some annual leave, so still in his pit. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Still dark, damp underfoot but not raining at the moment, feels quite mild too.

Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk, I had fish, jacket potato and veg. It’s DS1’s 19th birthday today so it’s his choice of dinner, he’s chosen HM pizza, chicken, I’ll do chips, and salad with it, chocolate birthday for dessert. I need to buy some extra bits to make the pizza so I’ll do that on the way home after work. I’m only working until lunchtime today then on days’ off. Wat I need to buy is loads less than buying takeaway or going out. If he had wanted to go out for dinner it wouldn’t have been a problem as its’ a special occasion we’d have done it, but it would have been at the weekend rather than in the week.

Work yesterday wasn’t too bad, although most of the enquiries were council tax related as final notices’ had been sent out. I’m not expecting today to be too bad doing the job I’ll be doing.

Once I’m home from work at lunchtime, I’ll get the pizza dough ingredients into the bread making machine and leave that to do it’s stuff and crack on with some other jobs.

Keep safe and well x

Thanks for starting the thread NMLC
Tru, thanks for the songs & carols.
LW, I hope you are ok.
I'm off to work in a sec once I've fed the fish, hubby has a cuppa, he's still in bed as he's on lates this week.
I think I might go shopping after work today as I need to buy a couple of onesies, everything else is already sorted.
I'm being lazy I'm having my fruit & veg delivered by a local farm, my meat from the local butcher and that's mostly it. I don't buy chocolates or much like that as we usually get given some.
    Have a lovely day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

My brother and his girlfriend finally got the keys to their new house late yesterday afternoon. There was a lot of faffing about moving dates from the person at the top of the chain but it's sorted at last. They've paid rent on their old place til the 19th of the month so they're taking their time moving in, arranging furniture as they go rather than moving it all once then feeling overwhelmed, much better with a toddler and an elderly almost blind dog. I bet E sorts the Christmas decorations first, she can't wait to have Christmas in their very own house :D I'm not sure I'll see them on Christmas Eve, she won't want to leave her new place, lol.

I'll be cleaning the stairs carpet today, Scampi was having a great time digging in the garden yesterday but I forgot to close the stairgate to confine him to the kitchen

I woke up on my stomach, with my right leg bent to the side. Sounds odd when it's written down :DLIKE THIS I always used to sleep like this but I haven't been able to move my leg to that position for ages so I'm pleased the range of movement is quickly increasing. It's about time, I was beginning to wonder if it'd ever go back to normal. It's very achy now so I'm going to keep it moving today, only sitting down for half an hour at a time. I'll fix this damn problem if it's the last thing I do :D

    Morning All

Wet and windy as usual! No washing to worry about as I'm not using the disco WM (it flashes underneath which is why I've ordered a new one).
Bought DS2 his underwear that I always get for his stocking and got that wrapped last night, only 2 bottles to get and wrap now although I am waiting for DS2 to give me an idea of what I can get for his GF as she will be here from 27th.

Going to get my eyebrows sorted after work, they have spread everywhere so a good wax is needed, I'll get more heat logs for the fire too whilst I'm in that town. Hopefully I can finish the bit of painting in DDs room and then give it a good clean.

Have a good Wednesday, hope you're all well. Take care. XX

Morning one and all. All is calm weatherwise here but that could change!

Had a lovely day out and yummy lunch with my friend yesterday. I got the last of the stocking fillers for the DGDs and also some lamp fragrance for my Ashleigh & Burwood. Christmas Treasures fragrance was this month's special offer with 25% off, so got two bottles! Very bad flooding across all the fields on the way to Skipton (it was like being in the Lakes) and we hoped the poor sheep were all safe.

We have a little treat this afternoon! It's middle DGD's Nativity at school and she has been chosen to be Mary. She is so excited and is word perfect on all her words and songs. I'll need the tissues ready!

Now the gift shopping is all done, it's time to food plan. DD is working a late shift Christmas Day so the girls are going to their dads for lunch. So our special family day is going to be Boxing Day when we are down at DD's for Christmas dinner. Along with DS and GF and her two boys. I always cook the meat here to take down, this time beef, gammon and turkey. I already have the first two in the freezer so just a turkey crown to get. Christmas Day itself will be much quieter with no children!! Just DS and his GF and, of course Roxy dog, as her boys are also going to their dads for lunch.

Tonight's meal is salmon for Mr TA and smoked haddock for me. With a bit of salad and baby rosemary roasties. Another bowl of chicken broth in the fridge for Mr TA's lunch and I'll probably have a bagel and some HM soup from the freezer. So not a very busy cooking day in store.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))))) to those wanting/needing them. Take care xx

Cros posting!! Thanks TRU - I love that song. I am humming along to the Jackson 5 version!

    Hi everyone,

I'm suffering from some sort of lurgy which got me up early (that and DH left the en-suite light on with the door wide open so it shone right on my face). I'll probably sleep later.

I've promised to make mince pies for the Good Neighbours Social this evening but I don't feel much like it. I think I'll buy the pastry, Aldi had ready rolled sweet pastry last year so I'll see if they have it again. I don't think I'll go to the social.

I've not made a pudding or cake this year, so I feel very bah humbug but there will only be three of us and I don't eat either. It will be a very pared down Christmas this year, which is good because I always buy far too much.

I finished a Christmas quilt yesterday because I spent the afternoon watching TV sewing the binding. I very rarely watch daytime tv so I felt very decadent. I think it may be more of the same today.

    Have a good day.

    Morning everyone,

Just got back from walking the girls, cold and clear out there with a waning moon and bright stars, beautiful.

Will get over the yard early today as need to fit in walking Bill and letting him graze for a while, am hoping he can come off box rest in a couple of weeks and go out in the fields with his pals.

My DM has a check up appointment this afternoon at the eye clinic so will pick her up and take her in, it's at the hospital in BuryStEd and we are hoping it won't take too long as she wants to pick up a charm for DGD pressie. She confessed to me last night that she had got up in a stool to take her net curtains down to wash so will get those back up for her as well. She wouldn't have done that six months ago but her mobility / stability has improved so much since they sorted out her legs. Has also sorted out her hearing aids, apparently she was washing them in water that was too hot and made the little tubes too rigid, apparently the TV has been turned down to 24 form 50, bet the neighbours are relieved :rotfl:

Anyways, better get a wiggle on, hope everyone has a good day, get well wishes to any poorly folk x

    TA enjoy the nativity play.
Tru thanks for the Xmas song, how exciting for your brother and his partner, yay on the increased flexibility.

    Morning everyone.

Raining again, and very hard too. Yesterday it was fine all morning, I left the house at 1.45 for my appointment and all was dry, roads clear and weak sunshine. By 2.30 we were engulfed again by a deluge and the usual places were flooded. And it never stopped.

I did a bit of a shopping binge on Ama*** yesterday, not presents but things for the house or ourselves. :p After having had almost three weeks bring mostly bed bound I realised the need for a DVD on the bedroom TV. That was after I bought a firestick for the same TV :p And a couple of books, a bottle brush and a mandoline.

Today I'm off doing my two hour teaching session. Maybe no-one will turn up in the awful weather? I'm also looking after a neighbours dog which means I go over and let him out and feed him. Think I'll bring him round to my house too as he'll be in his cage otherwise.

Thanks for the song again tru.

Judi - what a poorly wee baby, I know your daughter will do her best for him.

I hope everyone has a good day.
  • Morning all!

Sorry I missed you yesterday :( internet wouldn't work.
Tonight's the night our Christmas decorations go up. Very exciting so we can finally look a bit festive at home.
Work Christmas meal yesterday - I'm still full.

Hope you all have a good day. Hugs. :)

  • Morning (((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

I am feeling a bit better this morning, the swelling is going down, its less red but still painful if I catch it. On my last day for the BP monitor, goodness my BP does vary, I guess another load of pills are on their way.

Bright morning. The fencing guys are here, they have both our back fences to do. The gate would not shut last night, but it seems ok this morning, queer......
