DRO 3 months in help/advice pls

Options
Hey all,

A Mobile phone bill which was up to date with payments at the time was put into my DRO. However it seems the company haven't cancelled the account it's just the bills have mounted up a bit.

I only put this in as a 'debt' as I thought I wouldn't need the contract but Id like to use it.

As my account is active and no termination fee has been given, can I pay the last few months bills and start using the contract again? Will I get into trouble from the official receiver?

It's not that I'm paying an actual debt back is it? As the payments were up to date...

You can't put an up to date account into a DRO as far as I'm aware.

It wasn't really a debt (though would have shown up on the credit report with a balance equal to that month's bill) so shouldn't have been listed.

As it was included, there is a liability to that phone company now frozen under the moratorium. That you want to carry on and use the thing may be safer than allowing it to be terminated and being technically liable for all the fees and charges associated with early termination.

On the other hand, 'bringing it up to date' will mean repaying that debt included in the DRO.

I think I'd run it past the DRO Unit.

Others feel free to contribute please.
  • I appreciate your replies guys...

BT have confirmed the sim only contract hasn't been cancelled whatsoever.

DRO unit said I can't just bring it up to date or DRO will be revoked. However if my intermediary email and ask for debt to be removed as there was no actual debt when DRO was submitted, I could then use the contract and bring it up to date.

It's all very stressful. I'm awaiting Payplan's response.

Maybe it's best to just leave it be. I don't want my DRO to be revoked

Yes, that seems to cover both angles.

The intermediary just needs to request the amendment and you should be OK to continue.
