Tesco Direct problem with refund for Black Friday

I just wanted to post a warning for others. I ordered something from Tesco Direct on Black Friday, within 3 hours I had an email to say they couldn't fulfill the order. I assumed that because nothing had been dispatched etc I wouldn't get charged. However, a couple of days later I noticed that Tesco had taken the money. I wasn't too worried as I knew it was probably just a process and I would get the money back. I then went to the bank today and I still hadn't had a refund! I called Tesco and they said that some of the orders that they couldn't fulfill were getting stuck in the system and not being credited. I was really annoyed and spoke with a manager who said I was justified in being angry and if I hadn't rung it might never have been picked up. She implied I wasn't the only one in this predicament. Please do checkthat you have received your money back if this applies to you!

What is the relevance of that?

If there is a systemic failure it could affect any amount.

Cos I wondered why they were so angry when they explained there's a system error.

Tesco process real time and deal with dispatch later. unlike most that take payment on dispatch.

If you read the entire post you will see that they are angry because:

" ... manager who said I was justified in being angry and if I hadn't rung it might never have been picked up ..."

The fact that Tesco admitted that they may not pro actively refund people to whom they owe money seems a good reason for anyone to be annoyed, and is certainly a good reason to post a warning.

of course it would've been picked up. audits happen all the time. and anyway the system would known there was 'no stock/dispatch/system error'.

the assistant was smart enough to mention a system error so they're fully aware of the issue, and in doing so totally wiped out the 'if you hadn't rung' line.

which makes this a non/half-baked story.
