HSBC Gold cards - PPI added?

Hi there MSE people

I am attempting to ascertain if there were any PPI charges added as standard to an old credit card (HSBC Gold card) that I took out in late 2002.
So far HSBC have been extremely slow in confirming any details at all (they went over the initial 40 x day period allowed and only confirmed the date I took it out after I went to the Information Commissioner and the Financial Ombudsman). They claim that there were no PPI charges added to this product, but have provided no statements or any other information to back this up, despite me asking this in my initial letter.
I should say at this point that I do not have any of my old statements relating to this product as it was opened in 2002 and closed in 2004.
My main query is: have any other MSE forumites had PPI charges added as standard to HSBC Gold cards around this period? If so, then I can get a better picture of what (if any) charges were added to this product so I can make my case further.

Best wishes

Tobolinos

Only if you agreed to them

Maybe they dont have statements any more seeing as you closed it 11 years ago.

No they havent as that isnt how it works.

Did you borrow on the card or pay it off monthly? The latter nearly always means no PPI would be payable as its on the borrowed amount. Not the repaid amount within the interest free period.

  • Thanks Dunstonh - I appreciate you responding with sensible answers.

I have heard of lenders adding PPI onto credit cards as standard, and burying this in the Ts and Cs, hence my query.

I have a feeling that I may be too late to claim back (assuming there was any added in the first place) because of the time elapsing, but would appreciate any pointers or tips to try my luck.

You will only have "heard" of this from the liars at CMCs - PPI would appear on every statement as a new separate charge as it increased your balance so you would see it every month and could query it. PPI on credit cards was often sold later over the phone rather than being included in the original application

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You wouldn't be to late to make a complaint about it as long as there was some evidence you paid it and did not need it.

There doesn't seem to be any evidence left. Companies are only obliged to hold your info for as long as necessary, not indefinitely...
