Hotel Extra Charge After Booking

I booked 2 rooms through Amoma.com. Especially this hotel because it is hotel is next to a river and wanted scenic views.

After booking, I emailed the company to please make sure that the rooms had a view of the river.

Now the hotel wants to charge me an extra £15 per night for this "add-on". Nowhere is this fee or possibility stated on Amoma.com
Is there request legal

Perfectly legal, unless your initial booking stated that the room as offered had a river view. Any hotel near a river/sea/mountain will have half their rooms facing the other way, and will usually surcharge for the 'scenic' ones.
Based on what you say, you simply booked a room, which is what your booking got you.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Some rooms cost more than others, sea view rooms, mountain view rooms, or rooms facing a car park, might have different charges.

The website you used, may not have advertised the river view rooms, so you may have booked a room with a different view.

Due to the desirability of the river/sea view rooms they are generally more expensive, so I see why they have charged you more, if you hadn't already booked a river view room.

Don't book the 'room upgrade' via Amoma, call the hotel instead and see what they say. I've read quite a few reviews for Amoma where you pay extra for a specific room type only to get there and be told it doesn't exist or that there should never have been a charge!

Not all hotels charge extra for special views, we've stayed in quite a few where the only room type was standard and a nice view was just a bonus. Obviously quite a few hotels do charge too but definitely worth calling the hotel to find out more.

  • Hi Guys
I booked a hotel room in DC for 2 nights in August through what I thought to be Booking.com.
The price advertised was £85 p/n which at a 5* near the Capitol was a good deal.
I received my booking confirmation but as I was busy arranging other aspect my US trip I didn't drill down too deeply until now.
I discovered today that Amoma billed me £261.59! They never sent a receipt and I only picked this up charge on credit card. Do these guys seriously expect to get away this??

When did DC become part of the UK again?
