Came across an advert for someone selling a puppy on face book and they want a copy of your passport.
I did warn people that it might be a scam, but he said its to prove that his re homed the dog if they dont change the microchip.
I dont want a dog already got one, but i'd be wary of identity theft.

Never buy a dog from the internet. There are lots of scams, including taking your money, offering delivery and no dog arriving (existing?). Also, anyone selling this way could be a thief, backyard breeder, penny pinching puppy farmer or the animal could be ill or have behavioural issues.

Any caring person would not 'dispose ' of their pet in this way.

It would concern me a lot. He could always draw up a contract of sale, much like you would a private car sale, for proof of sale.

Why would any one consider buying a pet off fb, unless the seller was local and you could go and have a look first / see the animals parents / check with local vets etc etc

I would not want to buy a dog online. I would want to see the puppy with there mother. Plus checking that the conditions are good. I would not give anyone a copy of my passport, ID fraud?
BBC Watchdog programme have been doing a lot about bad puppy breading farms. There web site has loads of good advice. Plus how to spot the bad breeders.

    Not everybody has a passport.

How would a passport help apart from showing a picture of a person. No proof who they are or where they live or that they bought the pup.

    Does the pup really exist?

Who in their right mind would be buying a puppy from the internet??
Frankly it is just too easy- even if the puppy exists it could be ill, from a puppy farm or a yes, maybe a scam.
Some folk are just too foolish

If you want a dog get one from a reputable breeder or from a rescue centre.
