Boiler and installation grants for employed

Hi:j
I am new to this so not sure if I am posting this right or even in the right forum. My husband and I have just bought a house it is 115 years old and beautiful however it has no loft installation, cavity wall and we don't know how long the boiler will last someone mentioned Green Deal to me and ECO scheme and I have been trawling the internet to try and find more information on these scheme however the criteria for all these schemes seems to require the participant to be on benefits, does anyone know of any help for employed people, we both work full time.
Thanks in advance and sorry if I have posted this in a totally unrelated forum.

Welcome to the forum. The Green Deal is not a grant. It's a loan-based scheme whereby the cost is recouped via your electricity bills over ten years. Nor is it means-tested. However funding has currently ceased for this scheme.
You can check with your own LA for any regional/local grant schemes on offer.
There is no point in replacing a working boiler just because it's a few years old.
Loft insulation: check first with your own gas and electricity supplier for possible deals. Otherwise, loft insulation is a simple DIY install and very cheap to do, at most half a days work.
If the property is 115 years old then it won't have cavity walls to insulate.
But I'm puzzled as to why you bought an old house, knowing it to be poorly insulated, without budgeting for the necessary improvements-why do you expect this to be grant-aided if you are both in employment?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks for the reply and I will check with my LA and we will more than likely do the loft ourselves.

In response to your puzzlement as to why we bought an old house without budgeting for necessary improvements, I don't think I said that we haven't budgeted for necessary improvements, we actually have but our Solicitor mentioned the Green Scheme and advised us to look into it, so I was just asking the question.
