O/S Daily Tuesday 8th December 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Still dark, wet underfoot but not raining at the moment, feels quite mild too.

Dinner last night was gammon, egg, roasted new potatoes with rosemary, and peas. Tonight we’ll be having fish, the menfolk will have chips and beans/veg, I’ll have fish, jacket potato and veg.

Work yesterday was busy but steady, we did have times where customers were waiting a long time to be seen but we can only work as fast as we can. It did ease off in the afternoon about an hour before we closed, which gave us time to catch up with all the paperwork etc. I still haven’t caught up with my emails from when I was on leave not last week but the week before, I’m working at the other office today, so hoping I’ll get chance to do that – a lot depends on how many staff we have working on the phones, which is what I’ll be doing.

Once I’ve finished work tomorrow I need to get cracking with finishing off the xmas prezzie shopping, so I can get some prezzies delivered this weekend. DH and I were talking and have decided we need to go to see the ill person and another family member out that way at the weekend, certainly won’t be easy but we do need to go. We’ve decided we won’t take the boys as we don’t know how the situation is and how ill the ill person is going to be. I know we can’t protect them forever but under these circumstances we feel we’re making the right decision. We’ve decided we’ll visit on Saturday.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

Wind and rain raged all night again but I think it's calm now. Still dark as the ace of spades outside.

Yesterday was fairly productive, we don't really 'celebrate' Christmas too much so I'm not in the throes of shopping or card writing. The Advent crown is as much of decorations I can cope with.

My plans today include going back under the duvet for a couple of hours, chin lasering time again (the war against chin hair is being won) and a neighbour coming round later. I want to try a recipe for roast pork from Janes Martin so will order the cut from the local butcher too.

I hope all are well and warm.

    Morning All

Very windy during the night, it woke me up about 4.30 and couldn't get back to sleep so got up and wrapped some more christmas presents, nearly there now, will try to get the cards done tonight.

Got lots of odd jobs done yesterday evening including some bits of painting that needed to be touched up.

Lovely tea of stir fry veg with oyster sauce, going out for a late lunch/early tea with friends after work, looking forward to a catch up with them.

My bathroom is now done and I am beginning to like it, just need to get the builder to fix the toilet flusher and it's done.

Have a lovely day and keep well. Take care. XX
  • Morning all, wet and blowy here, which is a bit of a pain since I daftly believed the weather forecast last night and put on a load of towels to wash, meaning them to go on the line while I am at work. Must have a shower and get off soon.
Worked late last night so my two meat eaters had a happy time munching up a large meaty meal, apparently massive pork chop, I made myself some risotto when I finally got in, carried on knitting the wings for a fairy and hopped off to bed.
Sorry to hear about the flooded cellar Camelot
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning all

I've fed the fish, taken all the dry washing of the maiden & folded it, refilled a kitchen cupboard from when the shelf fell down on Sunday. It's a corner wall cupboard and the shelf was resting on 4 silly little plastic noggins, hubby has fixed the shelf properly with some batten.

I've also taken hubby up a cuppa, I'm browsing on here whilst I drink my cuppa.

I've stripped the spare bed & put the bedding in to wash, I'll put it over the maiden when I get home from work as it's expected to rain again today.

Time I got a wriggle on.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning all. We too had rain through the night but no wind this time! We have sunny spells forecast for later. It still feels very warm this morning. In fact no heating or fire on yet which must be a record for a December morning!!

I had to restrain myself at the Christmas Village yesterday! Such beautiful things and so very tempting. I got my fibre optic tree for the coffee table but it's a bit bigger than I intended so hope it doesn't look silly on there. It cost far, far more than I intended spending so had to reign myself in after that! Just got some fake greenery with cones on to drape over the mantle. I thought I would thread the now surplus tree lights amongst it and see what it looks like. Still need to venture in the loft for everything we might need. Bought a massive card of Duracell batteries yesterday so they should keep everything lit till the festivities are over!

I am off to Skipton on the bus with my friend today. Sadly not a market day but it's the only mutually agreeable day we could arrange. We'll have our lunch and the shared wine in the Lion and I'll look for a few final stocking fillers in the gift shops and then must stop spending!

I currently have a pan of chicken broth on the go which will do for Mr Ta's lunches today and tomorrow. So he won't starve in my absence! I think he likes me abandoning him for the odd day now and then so he can sit all day watching re-runs of Fools & Horses, Summer Wine etc without much sighing from me!!

Have a good day all. ((((HUGS))))) to those wanting/needing them and take care xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I had the most dreadful nights sleep so I feel like a wrung out dishcloth :( I had a lot of pain in my face and my cpap mask came apart so that woke me too. Anyway lots of cups of tea prescribed for me and that will see me right.

Girls are rushing around getting ready for school and hubby has already left for work. My friend didn't make it here yesterday so hopefully she will get here today instead. Max had pulled out and emptied the bin in the living room so that will have to be tidied up before she comes.

Hubby has asked for sausages for tea so I will make some mash and beans to go with it. I don't know what I will be eating yet, I think there is some lamb tagine in the freezer so if I can find it I will eat that.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

It was a beautiful day yesterday , warm and sunny , shame I missed it because I was at work

I think I just about have all my Xmas presses sorted and most of them wrapped I want to get a little stocking for the dds to put some sweeties in then I'm done
I need to do a meal plan over the Xmas hols so I don't over buy

Right off to work I go. Have a lovely day everyone xxx

    Morning all,

Back from Venice at 11 Sunday night having been delayed sitting on the plane for hours due to fog in Venice, we got home hours later than we should have and were shattered, but what a place :T it is completely beautiful and every corner you turn there is something new to see, we could have done with another few days really so I would like to go back, it was perfect going in the winter too as no crowds. I have fallen in love with Venice :D

Back to reality and work today, only two weeks before breaking up for Xmas though, I need to sit and write my cards and get them posted soon.

Dinner tonight will be a quiche and roasted veg that my mum got us for coming home but we were too shattered to eat it, so will have tonight instead.

Have good days all and hope all is well xx

    Morning everyone,

Wet and dull here today, another one who had a bad nights sleep, my rotary cuff problem seems to be kicking off again so need to get off to the docs and get referred for some physio as that really helped last time.

Off to the yard in a short while to sort out Billy and get him to the EH for his injections, spoke to them yesterday and they said it only takes 45 mins so we can wait for him, luckily its so close and my boy won't have to travel too far afterwards.

Camelot - hope you are managing to sort out your cellar.
Tru - thank you for the carol, good one to be singing all day
RR - I loved Venice too, although the main touristy spots were fab think what I remember most is away from the bustle the little palazzos and churches hidden away, not to mention the yummy food, glad you have a lovely time.

Anyways, better catch a move on, good day everyone x
