PPI Claim Credit History

I have been contacted by one of the PPI claim companies with regard to a bank loan I had back in 2005. My question is how do they know about that loan because it doesn't show up on my credit files with Experian etc Is there somewhere that this historic information is kept because I had a mortgage about 12 years ago with PPI but the mortgage company says they do not have the paperwork anymore

Don't touch them with a barge pole,
They don't know at all and after 10 years, there is very unlikely to be any paperwork anyway,

Thanks I have no intention of claiming via one of these companies because they take some of the claim and in any case I could file the claim myself. My concern is that how did they know about the bank loan, they even told me who the loan was with and for what amount so my question is - are these historical financial details kept somewhere because how else could the PPI Claim company know

Data theft, probably.

Particularly if you were with a low end lender who went on to set themselves up as a PPI company.
