Replace French doors with window

Options
Hi,

I've been quoted £1100 to have double UPVC doors replaced with a double opening UPVC window. That quote includes everything ie bricking up the door, the window, cavity wall insulation and plastering. The window looks like a pretty good one although I'm no expert.

Does that sound reasonable?

Cheers!

It is a new website where you can post your job and builders can quote via reverse auction...
Lets seen, the window in about £200 to £350, brickwork, Plastering, insulation around £150 all in... so £500... £600 left for 2 to 3 days work... I would say not bad... May ask to sell the double doors for the builder to make a little more money. Not bad but could be better...

If this is an indication of the degree of accuracy and professionalism offered by YouKwoteMe.com then this is valid reason for having nothing to do with it.

In addition any organisation who cannot spell "quote" needs to be treated with a degree of suspicion.

I'm all for saving money, but that seems like a really bad idea.

Mmmm I wonder what the pitfalls of clients initially pricing works could be ? The risk of pricing too high and insufficient trades responding (Because of lack of publicity /marketing of site and good tradesmen not needing to use such sites ) Resulting in client paying over the odds or client pricing to low resulting in no works ? Are you left with crappy tradesmen bidding on works from clients that don’t have a clue of the cost win win ???

Id seen them trying for funding with no takers can't think why

The web site is a recipe for disaster when viewed from the consumers perspective.

I have doubts about the technical competence of its' founder and the relevance of his knowledge to the UK construction industry. As an example, he gave a reply to lucylou32 a couple of days ago. The response was misleading - I am tempted to call it incorrect because it did not explain the principle behind drain diversion. I suspect Pascal, the founder of the website, does not understand the principles here.

Do not worry Pascal, in the interests of fair play come back on this and YouKwoteMe on my comments above!
