Basin misalignment, can I get a trim?

Hi, I purchased a bathroom suite from bathrooms.com and took delivery a week ago. At the weekend we managed to mock the suite in place to get positions etc when we noticed that the sink and pedestal stand don't line up. I contacted bathroom.com and emailed a couple of photos only to be told that this is a proper with their stock of this product so a replacement would likely be the same. They would offer a discount on the basin, replacement for an equivalently priced basin or a redund. The trouble is, the basin matches the whole suite as its very curvaceous so there isn't an equivalent available anywhere. I adore the bathroom suite and don't want the hassle of returning the whole lot and finding something else (I've spent the last 2/3 months planning this!) bathrooms.com suggested a bead of silicone to cover the misaligned joint, but it's about 3/4 of an inch out, so would be more of a log of silicone rather than a bead! Is there any flexible trim or anything I can get to help with discrepencies like this?
Thanks,
James

It looks like you need to move the bottom of the sink away from the wall whilst maintaining the position of the pedestal. If you seat the sink on top of the pedestal without leaning it against the wall (don't let it fall) does it all line up?
  • A significant discount on the basin I would hope; that basin to pedestal match is worse than 'seconds' quality.

I think siliconeing it will make it look worse rather than better.

Does it? It looks to me as if the rear of the pedestal is just too wide for the part of the basin it is supposed to line up with. TBH I think any bodge with silicone is going to look horrible. Not sure what else you can do though. Like the basin btw. Pretty poor show that they sell these knowing there is a fault like this.

  • I'd send the whole lot back and start again.

That is a dreadful mismatch and nothing you do to it will improve it.

Better to start again rather than accept something that you will never be satisfied with.

    Good luck.

That may not be a bad call if it is smaller it might fit inside the bottom of the basin rather than on the edge & this would make sense as there isn't much of a lip the way you have it to support the basin

  • So sorry for very late reply. It really does pay to persist, I'd been robbed off with "we no longer use that supplier" "all our stock is like that" etc. The pedestal was definatly the right way up, but fortunatly they've sourced a new supplier and they're getting conformation next week. Unfortunately they will be coming from China so there's going to be a wait, but atleast it will match the whole suite!
