Amazon rejecting honest reviews

Amazon have now rejected a couple of my reviews. I'm annoyed because they were 100% truthful.

However, I suspect they've been rejected because they were negative. I wanted to warn prospective customers of things that were wrong - it's so annoying to wait for a delivery which you expect to have by the time you need it only to find the item is not as described / never arrives, leaving you with no item by the date you needed it and no way of getting its replacement in time.

I'd rather be able read a review like mine and not bother to order it in the first place if too many people report problems, but it's not fair to customers if Amazon are rejecting unfavourable reviews.

Rant over, but confidence in Amazon in tatters.

Their review guidelines are quite specific, the review must be solely about the item. So if you complain about (for instance) the delivery the review will be rejected.

I don't think they are rejecting them because they are negative, I've left plenty of 1* reviews, but because they don't follow their guidelines.

I want to know about the product. I don't care if someone else's delivery was late/didn't turn up. That's not about the product and shouldn't be in the review or effect the start rating the product has been given.

If you are referring to "reviews" left for a product that rants about delivery matters, then it should be removed. It has nothing to do with the product.

You should be leaving a review of the product detailing your views on the product, and a separate review in the appropriate place concerning delivery.
  • Sign into your account, click on 'your orders' and you'll see the option to leave seller feedback for each purchase. That's where these comments need to be posted. Reviews on the other hand should be solely about product quality.

I've just been browsing for CDs on Amazon and it's so frustrating to read one star reviews like this: 'Whilst I enjoyed the cd I was very disappointed that when it arrived the case was cracked and scratched, as has been the case with all the cd's I've bought from indigostarfish.'

That was a review of a great album which otherwise has only five star reviews. It's unfair to pull down the star rating of a product purely because of issues with the seller. Especially as the majority of items (including this CD) are available from multiple sellers.

Whereas if you leave the seller poor feedback then every potential customer of the seller is able to see this in their satisfaction rating and can then decide whether to buy elsewhere. So it's a much more effective way to complain about a seller and warn potential buyers.

I wish reviews stated the source of the product criticised (there are lots of critical reports).

I was looking up branded button batteries, the other day, and interspersed with complimentary comments were a number that said the batteries they received were unpackaged, cheap fakes , which lasted only a few days.

However, there are dozens of suppliers, even for a specific brand , so it's impossible to know who the bad sellers are.

This demonstrates why product reviews and retailer/seller reviews should be kept separate.

This most recent time, my review was solely about the product, nothing to do with delivery. Someone else had posted a similar review, which had worried me, but it was the only one, and there were plenty more happy customers, so I went ahead and ordered, only to find the same problem as the one negative reviewer. All I wanted to do was post that same info so that potential customers had some idea how often it was a problem.

As for items not arriving/arriving late, I do want people to be able to include that in a review because it affects which supplier I choose (when, as teddysmum says, the reviewer bothers to include that info) e.g if I need the item by a certain time or if it will be a gift.

But if those are the rules, then thanks, I know for next time and won't bother posting any more reviews good or bad. I'm not going to help them sell one thing if they stop me alerting customers to a genuine problem about another product. They'll just have to find out the hard way.

So they allowed an almost identical review, but rejected yours? Seems odd. I don't suppose you want to post it up here so we can see where it may have fell flat?

Your 'delivery and seller' feedback idea also doesn't make sense. There are many sellers all selling through the one Amazon portal, there are not different pages for the item from different sellers. You can, however, click through to the sellers name and see their feedback, so you can leave that type of feedback on the sellers page, but not on the 'product review' page. Clue is in the name.
