Introducing meat and dairy back into my diet- what to expect?

I have been eating a vegan diet for 10 months and have started adding meat and dairy back into my diet.

Has anyone else done this, and what was the experience like? Did you have an upset stomach, bloating, anything else physical?

It's only been 1 day for me, so i dont feel anything different at the moment.

Not sure but I will be following this thread with interest, as I have become vegetarian over the past few months/years, due to my OH being veggy, and I would also like to re-introduce meat into my diet :)

    Thanks Heuchera.

I think it can be quite a sensitive topic sometimes, getting a lot of hate comments from people in the 'Vegan community'. Is the Vegetarian community as bad?
It's one of the main things that put me off telling people i was a vegan.

I imagine that it'll be adding dairy that has the most 'side effects', but not sure.

My parents are pescatarian so I didn't eat meat growing up, and when I left home and started eating red meat it did make me feel very bloated and sluggish. It took a few years to stop causing problems and even now if I eat a big slab of meat like a steak I feel a bit queasy, but I rarely eat meat anyway.
But that came after a lifetime of not eating meat, after ten months I would have thought your body would readjust fairly quickly.
I don't know what will happen when you start eating dairy again but as long as you didn't have any problems with lactose beforehand, reintroducing it shouldn't be too problematic...though maybe do it on a day when you don't need to leave the house for a few house, just in case ;)

Thanks Fairy Lights :) I am not planning on drinking milk again, as i dont really like the taste anymore. But will happily eat products with milk as an ingredient.

No, no problems with lactose beforehand, so hopefully no problems re-introducing it.
Good tip about not leaving the house for a few hours!

    Of course.

Various reasons really. The main reason being health. I really thought that a vegan diet was healthier, but my heath isn't in agreement! In the last 4 months i have been having almost daily headaches and migraines. No matter what i do, they wont go away. The GP wont send me for further tests until i change my diet to see if that's responsible.

I am getting very bored with food and cooking, where as this used to be something that i loved doing previously. I loved trying out new foods, but i am starting to find food boring and uninteresting.

I miss meat a LOT. Not so much dairy, but i miss meat.

I want to be able to sit around a table of friends/family and eat the same as them for a change. Not be the odd one out.

It makes daily cooking a chore, as neither of my children are veggie or vegan, so most nights i have to cook separate meals.

Just because i want to, honestly. I gave veganism a go, and i believeit can work really well for some people, and not so well for other people.

Other vegans. They are a very poor representation of a diet that's supposed to be about compassion and kindness. I don't want to be associated with people like that. I don't feel that i fit into the vegan label.

Do you go back to eating meat? Does it effect you physically?

I was veggie for 12 years and then went back to eating meat. I had constant problems with anemia despite eating the perfect iron-rich diet and was suffering horrendous cravings for meat. I actually found myself outside a butcher's shop one day salivating at the sight of the raw meat! :rotfl:My (vegetarian) doctor eventually said that he felt that my body was just not suited to a veggie diet for some reason.

When I started eating meat again my anemia soon disappeared and I felt so much better. I had no negative side-effects at all, but I didn't just start shoving tons of meat down my throat or eating processed meat. I just started having a few meals a week that contained meat. Even now I still eat a lot of veggie meals, but it is so nice to be able to enjoy cooking and eating out without any restrictions.

I have been craving meat too, albeit not to that extent!
Today i had a bit of milk chocolate, no negative experiences so far!

(Pork) Sausages and Mash for dinner tonight, so we'll see how that goes.
I feel excited about food again, it feels so good!

    IBS.

Although Id recommend light version, ie, tuna instead of salmon, chicken instead of red meat and skimmed milk instead of the normal semi/1%/full fat tripe.

I'd say the dairy would cause the most issues, due to whatever they're doing to cows milk these days.
