Delivery to kerbside

Hi All,

Here for a bit of a vent but also to see if I should complain or not....

I ordered a few new things for the house, batch, sink etc - all with different companies.

All delivered OK except for the sink. Had a knock on the door and delivery guy stood there saying he had a delivery. I asked where it was and he just pointed to the road. He had literally opened the back of his lorry and left it on the road (still on the wooden pallet).

Nowhere on any of the postage/delivery (which I paid £39 for) did it state it was kerbside delivery - I would have ordered elsewhere. Luckily I was at home as my wife wouldn't have been able to lift it in. If the delivery driver of the bath would have done this I would have had no chance getting it in.

I understand this is quite common for things that need a pallet (this really didnt) but surely they must have to say it somewhere on the delivery info?

I also have the pallet to get rid of now

Generally I'm rather impatient with a lot of the vents/rants that are posted here, which are often nonsense, but this is really outrageous - £39 for only half a service. I would most certainly be requesting at least 50% of the charge be refunded.

I had a complete bathroom suite (bath, curved glass shower screen, toilet and basin) delivered on to my drive on a pallet. Shrinkwrapped. I'm a single mum, the driver just left it there. I had to get a neighbour to help me take it in the house. Never entered my head to complain ?
  • Even the drive wouldnt have been bad as the road outside.

I have no idea why they put mine on a crate
  • I paid £100 for delivery of a Howdens kitchen.

When the driver turned up he said he was only required to deliver it to the kerbside. Are you kidding me?

Long story short I pointed out that this 5"1 ninety nine pound woman couldn't reasonably be expected to haul an entire kitchen in by herself so the two of us did it together. Never occurred to me to complain either but now I'm wondering if I should have done. £100 for kerbside delivery? Meh!

Isn't delivery to kerbside normal for deliveries of building/construction materials, as they're expected to be being delivered to contractors/fitters (who would carry them in).

I remember paying about £100 for delivery of some roofing materials a few years back and it was made very clear it was to the kerb, so I had a couple of friends pop round and help unload and move it to where it was needed.
