British Gas Bill
We receiver a letter from British Gas on 5th December 2015 stating that although we had paid our gas & electricity bill in November 2014 they had forgotten to process the payment so we should pay by 7th December 2105. We closed our account with them in April 2015 and at the time they confirmed that there was no payment outstanding. Can they really chase us for this outstanding sum & how can they be so incompetent?

So did you pay in November 2014 or not?0 -
.....although we had paid our gas & electricity bill in November 2014 they had forgotten to process the payment so we should pay.......
If the payment (by whichever means) did not leave your bank, you have not paid. If it reached BG, but they failed to allocate to your account, then you did pay.
So check your bank statements from Nov/Dec 2014.We receiver a letter from British Gas on 5th December 2015.....we should pay by 7th December 2105.
Very generous from BG, to give you 90 years to pay.0 -
They can pursue the debt for up to six years, though the back billing code may apply.
If it turned out that your account was in credit, then presumably you would still expect a refund after 8 months? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Have now spoken to British Gas who assure me that there is no payment due on the account and that the letter must have been sent in error so I can ignore it. Words fail me!0
