Hi I have just had an email from Paypal to say my account is now restricted until I scan in certain documents to them. I had a similar msg a few weeks ago. Is this a scam??
I've had this account for years, don't understand. Only use it for selling bits and bobs.

Personally l would be phoning Paypal to confirm the requested information.

Free phone number and using the One-off passcode.

You can normally tell if it is a scam if it is addressed to your name or "PayPal Customer". You can also forward it to spoof@paypal.com and they will e-mail you back and tell you if it genuine.

Just find it strange that I haven't heard of anyone getting this email.

Have you logged into Paypal to see if there is a notice on your account?

From memory a friend had a similar (genuine!) request a few months ago. Check the senders address carefully. I had some fake emails from Payparl.
Depending on your browser the address bar may show if you're on a secure site. On firefox the paypal address is in green and preceded by a padlock. If you hover your curser over this it state verified by Symantec Corporation.

Get this e-mail about two or three times a week across four e-mail addresses (one that has no connection to PayPal). Also regularly get an e-mail saying I have sent money to a company or someone (usually Skype for some reason) and if I did not authorise the payment to click here. The give away is normally it is addressed to "PayPal Customer". Genuine PayPal e-mails tend to have your full name in.

People get scam Paypal emails all the time. You can find some if you google it, for the rest people know it's a scam so they just ignore it.

If you want to know if your Paypal account is fine type the address in your browser and go direct to the site and log in. If it's restricted there should be some message about it!

Never click links in emails you're unsure about. As already said, there are numerous things to look out for to tell if an email is genuine.

To add to them, different or messed up layout can be a sign and if you view the source of an email it'll tell you where it really came from, even if the address showing to you appears to be the official one (people can fake addresses).
