Savings + Investments in UK for Brit living overseas

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum though I've been lurking for a while. I am living overseas but have some income in the UK from letting out my old flat.
It's now mortgage free and I would liek to start investing the income I make from it.
I want to build up some savings first and then gradually start to drip feed into some kind of fund. Since I envisage moving back to the UK at some point it would be nice to keep the cash there (especially as the interest rates on savings here in the Eurozone are appalling) but most banks seem to require a UK address to open accounts.
So my questions are:
1) Where can I open a savings account with a decent rate of interest in teh UK while non-resident?
2) Is there a comparison site for different rates/fixed periods etc also for non-residents?
3) Where should I start looking for investment advice in bonds/funds etc? I would normally have started with ISA's but clearly I'm not eligible for that....
Any assistance gratefully received!
Many thanks
GC

Who do you bank with in the uk at the moment?
Barclays and HSBC have investment accounts you can link to your bank acct?0 -
I would also be interested in any UK or offshore accounts that can be recommended. I am not living in the UK at the moment, I have UK income but am not able to open a new bank account as I am classed as a non UK resident.
I realise that interest at the moment is virtually non existent but I would like my money to be safe and am not confident about the Spanish banks.
I don't have a Barclays or HSBC account.0 -

In theory you are correct Colston but in practice this does not always work. Just ask a Cypriot or a Greek and the Spanish banks are no more trustworthy0

might be a possibility as you are EU resident.

Nobody in the EU who did adhere to the €100K deposit limits has ever lost a cent. This includes that nobody who has adhered to the UK FSCS limits has ever lost a penny. People who decided they were above"it" may have lost money, and they have got only themselves to blame and are not worthy of sympathy.
Going forward, there is no reason to believe it would be different in future.0 -
