Hi there. Does anyone know if a car can be leased in the UK from a Dutch bank account please? It's for a solo UK based employee. Thanks

Are you resident in the UK?
I think more info is required.0 -
It's the company my other half works for. He is British and based in the UK. They are based in the Netherlands. They are saying they cannot lease a car for him in the UK because they don't have a UK bank account and want him to get it in his name instead. I think they are talking rubbish. Am I right or wrong? Thanks!0

Can a direct debit/standing order be set up from a NL bank account to pay the money into a UK bank account? If the answer is 'No', they are not talking rubbish."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
I don't know - that's part of the question I guess0

our company had the same issue except reversed, we wanted to hire a car in NL for an employee based there, however all dutch based leasing companies would not lease to us as we did not have a permanent place of establishment in the Netherlands and were not a dutch registered/resident company. You may find your partner's company are being asked the same questions.
Also most direct debit systems are not set up to handle international transfers i.e. UK DD requires an account number and a sort code, but the NL system uses an 18 digit IBAN number to make an international transfer. We have an account in NL so that wasn't the issue, it was down to the company identity and legal jurisdictions.
the way we got around it was for one of our dutch colleagues to hire the car in his name and we made a transfer to his account for the lease amount each month. Of course all the risk then lay with him, if we were to stop paying each month, he would have been liable to the hire company for the remainder of the lease contract. And your partner may find the same issue if the minimum hire period is for say a year, what happens if he is dismissed or leaves, if there is a fixed lease period he may have to see it out.Mortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190 -

Yes - that's what he's worried about as they have suggested that. I called a car leasing company and just asked the question and they said their finance company did it quite often - so he has sent their details on. We shall see. It does seem a bit daft as we're all in Europe - am sure their bank could set up a regular international payment, I think maybe his company just don't want the hassle (and of course possible extra expense).
Thanks for your help.0 -
There are pan-EU leasing companies available but obviously your husband's company doesn't want to use one of them.0
