In my sons there were four showers and four toilets for 20 people. The showers opened directly onto the corridor so you either had to take your clothes into the cubicle in a fully water proof bag with your towel, or put your towel in a water proof bag and walk to your room in a towel.

What's wrong with walking to your room in a towel?

seems somewhat of a foolish over reaction
but OK 'hardly anyone shares a room anymore'

Back in the 70s shared rooms were very normal, partly for the sombre reason that they lowered the suicide rate.

In London, where I live, my DD was automatically allocated a shared room at uni a couple of years ago. In a corridor where there was one shared kitchen. it wasn't spacious but the facilities were better than my time at uni almost 40 years earlier.

The room you are then going to is a bunk room, so unless the room mate is not in the room you can't dress in there anyway. Some people also like to maintain dignity.

So you would be happy for your daughter to share a bunk bed with a complete stranger who upon walking in the room discovered that person stank of BO and was letting her boyfriend stay for a week to settle her in? The boyfriend that had been done for having raping a ten year old.

I think Robert de Niro then chases the family down to their boat in a storm. Or is it the one where Bobby Ewing is in the shower? One of those anyway.

When I was at university I didn't give a toss what my parents thought.:D

Nobody should have to put up with rats and mould but your student days should be about more than slick mod cons.

When you were a student you didn't need to "give a toss" as you got a grant so weren't reliant on them to pay your rent. Now parents have to pay they tend to feel they have more of a say and their offspring tend to have to be less dismissive of their parents opinions. He who pays the piper (or the rent) tends to call the tune.

And you are claiming the university once your daughter informed them were fine with this ?

Sounds like your daughter was having you on.

Its awful that people make light of rape, I hope you wouldn't be so flippant if it was your own ten year old daughter.

My local uni Has really nice and modern halls but even a 2 bedroom house walking distance of halls let alone anything bigger works out cheaper per head so no one stays beyond their first year even though they can.
