Setting up a home network/folder sharing in Windows 7

Options
Haven't done any networking in Windows since the XP days.

We have 2 PCs in our house that connect to the router via Wifi, I have a folder on the upstairs PC that I wish to share with the Laptop downstairs and no-one else(neighbours etc)

I see there is a Homegroup option in the networking part of control Panel?

Is it just a case of sharing the folder upstairs, adding it to a Homegroup network and then adding the laptop to the Homegroup network?

Pretty much that yes, Workgroups are still supported too if you are more familiar with those.

In order to use Homegroups, I think all the PCs on your network need to be running Windows 7 or later.

If you need to share files with older versions of Windows (or other operating systems) then you'll need to share by setting up a workgroup (much like the way you'd do things in XP).
