Thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum, the info here has helped me build a credit rating. I know some of you don't believe in the 'score' but I've found it useful to keep tabs on how I'm doing.

I'm not bad with money but I didn't exist for over 10 years (long story, not going into it) so I wasn't even on the credit agencies lists (even though I had a Santander basic account from years ago, it was a Leicester building society account originally). That was a year ago. Put myself on the electoral roll and opened a Santander current account after an interview, then I appeared on Experian and Equifax, in March I was accepted for a Barclaycard Initial with a £400 limit, that increased to £1200 in Sept (I spent around 900-1100 a month on it, making payments when it went over £350). Then last week Santander accepted me for a 123 credit card with a £3400 limit.

My credit score is now 'excellent' with both agencies, with the only bad point being the lack of time on the electoral roll and the low average age of my credit accounts.
