Computershare letter for Unclaimed Shares

Just received a letter from this computershare company saying I have outstanding shares with a company I used to work for and that I need to contact them (cs) within 45 days to confirm my address. Thing is I had a stock plan with this former company and when I log I have precisely zero shares outstanding with my old company. Also when I log into the CS website and try to query them for companies that they are the registrars for my old company is not recognised by name or trading symbol. I am now wondering if I should sign the letter and return it as they request or maybe this is some kind of more sophisticated ebola monkey scam so I should simply chuck it in the bin. From my googling CS seem to be a legit company so I am confused how they got my details & if I should act on them...please anyone?

Computershare are a major registrar of shares and so would have the names and addresses of all shareholders. Perhaps your old company has been taken over and they are trying to distribute the sale proceeds. So yes you should contact them.0

Don't use the contact information provided in the letter unless you are satisfied the contact details are real. Get in touch with them through a number/address published on their official website as they are not immune from scammers.
For example:

Have you Googled the company in which you hold shares? You might find for example that they have been taken over and you hold shares in another company. You might get some idea of why CS have contacted you, if indeed they have. Can you share with us what the company is/was called?0
