Replacing an Apple Cable - what are my rights?

I have a faulty iPhone 5c cable that is 4 months old. The sheath that protects the wire has started to come away and now the charger doesn't work. Apple Store say it's accidental damage. I say it's poor quality and want it replaced under warranty. Apple want £15 for a new cable.
What are my rights? I couldn't take it any earlier to a store due to work.

There was a thread on this a while back about the problems with lightning cables, read the thread:

Also see the Apple website about the complaints:

Whether you manage to get a refund or not, I would forget about getting another one from Apple as they don't last.
Get yourself a Syncwire one from Amazon instead, they're a fraction of the price at £5.99 and have a lifetime guarantee.0 -
If you have the time to engage in warfare with Apple over fifteen quid, do so. Those cable are rubbish, and for whatever reason most Apple chargers shed their insulation. And it's worse for laptop chargers where the cable isn't removable and they cost a lot more - both my laptop chargers have heat shrink on them where the sheath has worn.
On the other hand, if you're short of time (as you imply), then Anker do some very good Lightning cables which have a nylon braid on the outside which seems pretty tough, and they don't tangle, and they're half the price.

If you can solve the problem for seven quid, personally I'd not bother fighting the battle.0
