Missed payments, complaint and credit file

  • You're right about how many people will be stung when trying to apply for credit, I'm sure! However I have no wish to escalate this further to the ombudsman in the hope of getting more compensation. I certainly would had I been denied credit because of this though.

In my opinion (well, more than that, it's probably demonstrable fact) the problem is endemic to the financial industry. Such actions as applying a late fee, reducing my credit limit and putting a black mark on my credit files were all done automatically. There is no looking for why these things happened, and only complaining might get them rectified if it's not the consumer's fault. The industry is quick to accuse and slow to correct. I'll bet most of my friends don't check their credit reports or would only do so immediately before a big application like a mortgage, which is when 'slow to correct' becomes a massive issue!
