O/S Daily Thread Sunday 6th December 2015

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Chin up, Titus out.

  • Morning all
My visitors are getting ready to leave, they visited their elderly mum yesterday and were very upset at her condition.
The staff are saying she is refusing food and drink but then are unable to provide her with a sippy cup (she can no longer manage with an ordinary glass). This just one of many concerns, the place sounds very badly managed but I'm not sure how they go about complaining.
I have washing on the line and another load chugging away, roast dinner later, lamb shank with roast pots, yorkies, stuffing balls and veg from the garden. I will also make a pot of leek & potato soup for lunches next week.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning HESTER and all to follow. This blooming wind and rain is relentless, day after day of getting blown and battered. A day with blue sky and sunshine would be lovely. I shouldn't complain though as there are lots of people flooded in various parts of the country and at least we don't have that up our hill.

I had a good night's sleep last night - until 4.30 when, wham, the inbuilt alarm went off! Keep taking the tablets and it does say on the box the dosage can be increased if need be. I feel much easier down below though. I can't think the Uva Ursi would start working so quickly so perhaps I'm just having one of my better days! Time will tell.

I still can't be trusted with Xmas goodies in the house! I got two boxes of mini nutty florentines yesterday and got my stool out to put them out of reach on the highest shelf, along with the rest of my stash. Somehow a box found it's way into my hands watching Strictly! Oh they were so good and we had the box devoured in no time!

I am dithering as to whether we put the tree up today or leave till next weekend! It might make me feel a little more festive. But I hate trimming trees up!

Lunch today will be roast chicken with all the trimmings. It's a big one so should feed us well for a couple of days. I'll get a couple of squares of either gooseberry or bilberry crumble out for after. I thought I had made loads but will need to make some more soon.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))) to those wanting/needing them. I really hope no-one has any storm damage and is well away from the flooded areas. Keswick looked horrendous on the news. Take care xxx

    Morning everyone,

Dry here and at least the wind has dropped, not that much damage out there on the early dog walk just a few branches on the floor, weird light though.

Managed to get most of my jobs done yesterday so just a bit of baking to do this morning, am also holding off from getting any decorations up as do like to leave it until at least middle of December, it's my youngest DSS birthday on the 15th.

My lad will need some time outside today as only managed 30 minutes yesterday, so will have a late lunch at about 3, have been fancying some liver, maybe am missing some iron at the moment? Have taken some out of the freezer this morning so will have that with bacon, carrot and suede mash, cabbage, broad beans and loads of onion gravy.

Well the storm has certainly taken its toll, poor folks with flooding etc, hope everyone has stayed safe and has a peaceful Sunday xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a wild and windy morning here, the dog didn't want to go out for a wee but just sat at the back door looking miserably at the garden. I'm the only one awake at the moment but I keep yawning as I didn't go to bed till past midnight which is very unlike me. I definitely will be heading back to bed at some point today though as I am feeling quite weepy. My DD13 has just come down with a nasty cold and I have a feeling that she has 'shared' it with me.

Hubby is cooking dinner today, he will be cooking a couple of chickens and making some mash to go with them. I have ordered a load of salad, fruit and vegetables to be delivered today so will just have some chicken, avocado and salad for my lunch. My blood sugars are running high and I'm not feeling well mainly because of the rubbish I have been eating recently so even though Christmas is coming I am going to try and eat better.

I hear movement upstairs so I will love you and leave you. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning All

Hope your DS manages ok tomorrow nmlc. What happened to him?
TA - Glad you are feeling a little better.
HH - Glad you have managed to talk OH into waiting a while, I'm sure he needs some time.
    Thanks for the links zippy.
Wealthygirl - How was Strictly? Lucky you!
judi - I'm off shopping for a tree for DD today, hope I have a more peaceful time than you!

The weather is calmer this morning but still wet, hope you are all safe and dry. I was expecting a power cut last night it was so rough, I took the head torch and hung it a the top of the bed in case but we were ok.

Got DS2s bedroom all cleaned and tidied, bed made and ready so that's one room sorted, DDs next but I need to get to the cellar for the paint, wasn't going outside to lift the doors yesterday, it was too windy.

Going to have lunch at DDs and take her to look for a christmas tree, her first christmas in her flat. I've looked out some baubles and lights. She was given some money from my Aunt when she moved in and bought some lovely tree decorations from JL, something she will use for a number of years.

Washing on, DW emptied, may do the ironing later (may not!).
Hope you have a lovely Sunday. Take care. XX

Oh that's just typical :D I didn't look at live telly yesterday, just watched a couple of recorded programs! I'm going to consult Locate TV to see if it's on again.

    Morning everyone

What foul weather ,the wind and rain are relentless, kept waking me up buffeting the window , disadvantage of having a bay window

i don't need to go out today so I don't think I will, dd2 has already gone to work and won't be back u til 5'ish . I'll have a roast dinner waiting for her for when she gets back

Went to visit mum yesterday , apart from the wind on the m1 it wasn't a bad journey and mum seemed in good spirits bless her , she had even put up a little Xmas tree :T It would be her wedding anniversary on Monday , so I've taken her some flowers to commemorate it

Need to tidy up today , but I'm not feeling it yet , I think another cuppa is in order first:D

Have a good day everyone and keep safe in this weather xx
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one.

It's a bit grey here and I can see the trees moving, so guess the wind has not dropped much. I feel so much for the people who have been flooded out , the pictures on TV last night were awful. People who have been flooded before will have a job claiming insurance even if they managed to get it. It is obvious that the flood defences were not adequate.

DD2 was here yesterday, did not finish the cleaning, so need to do the kitchen this morning once I have set the fire. Kitchen floor is really mucky with people going in and out.

Nothing planned for the day, just supper to cook.
