Legal to sell expired tickets?

spotty-tigger

I wonder if anyone can help: I've tried to Google but get all the wrong search results.
I accidentally bought tickets for something that was already in the past (this morning, when I meant tomorrow morning). The event's ticket-booking webpage doesn't disable past dates, thus making it possible to buy tickets for things a week or month ago. If you make the mistake, as I did, of booking tickets for a past event, the small print says tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded.
Is it legal, though, to sell tickets for past dates? It means selling something you cannot provide. Not unless you have a time machine, which as far as I know no one has.

You are selling a service that you are unable to provide. Sounds like a fault with the site to me.0
