5% is genuine though. My sig refers to scam investments not current accounts.

Many people still think that any deposit with a bank is an investment.

Most probably don't know that there is a difference between savings and investments.

Yes, I can cope with the Net in general but am not inclined to invest online at the moment. I am recently bereaved and find it hard to cope at the moment with online money matters.

It would be as much effort as posting on here, it really would. You open an account paying 5% (savings, not investment so your money is not at risk) and sit back. Job done.

I agree, and I couldn't function properly without online banking myself these days.

But I think we should respect if someone says they can't handle online banking. May be they just can't do online - but their postings on here speak against that. May be they just need more education to be comfortable with online banking. Most Citizens Advice Bureaus will be able to help.

Yes but you have to be paying in money each month; it's not that easy. Plus the amount you can earn 5% on is capped. Anyway not everyone wants umpteen accounts with money flying everywhere just for a few extra % on a few thousand pounds.

Posting on here takes very little effort or thought or worry. Opening a bank account online takes thought and concentration, and carries a worry that you'll mis-key something important and cause yourself much trouble. Mostly irrational, but still there. I know, I've done it often enough.

Not quite, you've got to move money around, and monitor that all is going to plan.

Having said that, Moneybags, please try to open a TSB account for 5% - it's not really difficult, just a bit scary.

That "few extra %" could mean >3 times the amount of interest earned.

3 times next-to-nothing is still next-to-nothing. Not really worth the bother but each to their own.

£300 interest instead of £90 is to me worth the minimal effort required.
£2000 instead of £600 is definitely worth it.
