Anyone else having problems with HSBC mobile banking app?

Hi,

I've used the HSBC app perfectly well for about six months, but about a week ago it stopped working and would no longer load. I just got the spinning wheel symbol and then a blank white screen on my phone. I tried it for several days, then I uninstalled the app and downloaded it again, but I couldn't get it to work. I called HSBC and the lady asked me to uninstall and re-download AGAIN. At least she was on hand to help with the process of getting two different security codes to register it but it still took the best part of an hour. And then it worked.

It lasted two whole days and now it's gone again. Not even the spinning icon, just a blank white screen. Meanwhile I have other banking apps that are working just fine, including the firstdirect one, which is almost identical, so I'm pretty sure it's not my phone or my signal.

Has anyone else had problems like this? If I ring up HSBC they'll probably just want me ti uninstall/reinstall again and I have no faith it'll work. Just wondering if anyone else has had problems like this over the past week or so?

    Have you tried just turning your phone off and on again? If that doesn't work, it's probably another re-install.

    I think the app might be a bit flakey. I had an issue earlier this week after it downloaded the latest version of the HSBC app as it said my device (on which I had used the previous versions for months) wasn't recognised and I needed to re-register. Which it then wouldn't let me do without a complete re-install. I know what you mean with it taking an hour to get it all fixed, and I understand that you want to avoid this at all cost.

    I haven't used the app since as I am only logging in a couple of times a month. I can't test it now, either, as my phone is two floors up and I am too lazy to go and get it.

    Thanks for that reply. Yes my phone has been on and off a couple of times so it's not that. Given your issue it sounds like it definitely the app at fault, probably after a recent update as you say.

    If it's not fixed within a couple of days, I'll leave HSBC. Taking security seriously in one thing but I've always hated the secure key thing (and now the app version). My Santander login is 16 digits, then a 12-letter word, then 5 more digits, and a secret picture AND IT'S ALL INSIDE MY HEAD so I don't need any of this junk HSBC forces me to go through. I think their cr-app is the final straw.

    I've just checked feedback for the app. Other punters are having problems too:
    Galaxy S4 Worked absolutely fine until the latest update, now it won't even open.
    Not loading sometimes Dear team, sometimes the app is not at all loading if I restated it works fine I can't do that all the time pls fix it.
    Latest update on Galaxy S5 It was working perfectly well until the latest update. Now when I try to open it I get a black or white screen and it locks itself so I have to turn my phone off and on again and this usually works. I uninstalled and installed and had to spend an hour on the phone to HSBC as they had to reset my passwords, it was a right carry on. Please can you fix this.
    Gone rubbish!! Used to really rate this highly among the banking apps u use, now doesn't even work!

    Samsung?

    Having read this and feedback for other apps, it appears that Samsung phone users have more problems than others with apps not working. Perhaps that's due to Samsung customisation or the simple fact that they have a large market share.
  • HSBC are so up themselves nowadays. They have removed their mobile app from so many people (via the back door) It suddenly stops working, this is actually because they only want people with brand New tablets and phones to access it. You can't use a kindle or Windows phone for example. They really only want iPhone's and ipads (perhaps they get kickbacks)
    The removal of the app has caused me so many problems I Hate their key thing.
    My other banks have great mobile apps no fiddly things to lose all in your head! Really thinking of closing account.
    They have the cheek to publicise their mobile app when the majority can't use it!
  • I had a problem with this app as well. I could not reinstall hsbc uk app. I did try many times and every time been frozen on welcome screen. I did ask HSBC for help but they were not be able to help me. Today I did try to do something different. I did reset my Samsung galaxy s7 settings and problem sorted. Everything works perfect 🙂
  • Ditto, my app has been malfunctioning on my Huawei Honor mobile since then. Only when I use 1/2 screen with it function but that's useless. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but now they say I didn't enter my "double secret mobile number" correctly and have locked me out. (reference to Animal House) I will be switching my account out of HSBC as soon as possible. Bloody ridiculous.

    same problem with my samsung. A few weeks ago stopped working, had to do a re-install. Since the new install it works but very slow and not convinced.

    It's been working fine here for months on iOS 13.3

    At some point a few weeks ago it became very slow. It still works, after a fashion, but isn’t ideal. I’m on android on a cheapish moto g phone.
