When is a resident not a resident?

We are UK resident. We have a house in the UK ,pay all our tax in the UK ,are registered to vote in the UK but have a holiday home in Turkey. As we are retired some years we have or have wanted to spend more than 180 days out of the UK (not necessarily all of it in Turkey). We are finding that we are told we cannot get Insurance in the UK (and not just travel insurance) because the companies policy is that the definition of a resident is someone who is a UK resident AND has been resident IN the UK for 6 of the last 12 months. So if I go away for more than 6 months I cannot insure my house or car on my return??? Apparently so. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get expert advice, and if this interpretation is correct, if any company will provide insurance?

With anything unusual then it's often useful to get specialist advice, have you tried insurance brokers in your area, they would at least be able to come up with some options or confirm whether it is a problem for most or all insurers.0

You can get insurance on your return for your car don't worry about that bit.
There are specialist insurance companies for your house that will give you insurance even though you are not in occupancy. As long as the house is occupied by someone then the rates should be very similar had you yourself been in occupancy.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
