O/S Daily Saturday 5th December 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Still dark here, but very blustery but not raining yet.

DH and myself awake enjoying first peaceful cuppas, boys still asleep in their pits.

I was reasonably productive yesterday - got all the remaining washing, drying and ironing done. Dirty wash basket was empty - don't think it will be this morning though. I got to the SM early and it was lovely, fully stocked shelves, and not too many customers. Once I'd finished there I took DS2 to the hospital - I was expecting to be there for ages, but there was only 1 person in front of us and we were in, seen and out again in 30 minutes - luckily there's no broken bones, but soft tissue damage, he's all strapped up. I spoke to the school when we got home and advised that I will be sending him to school on Monday and could they provide a laptop as the injured hand is his writing hand. I spoke to Customer Services - all calls go through this central point and they took a message and said they'd get someone to ring me back..... I thought here we go, I'll not get a callback and then be left all weekend knowing he's going to have problems Monday. But I got a callback saying a laptop has been organised, he just needs to go and collect it Monday morning, sign for it and then return it at the end of the day so they can re-charge it for him for the next day. Hoping he'll only need this for a week.

Myself and the boys are going up to my bro's and sil's this morning and staying there overnight tonight - will be a nice break. We were all going but DH has a ridiculous early start Monday morning and will need to try to get some sleep Sunday afternoon so he's decided he'll be better off to stay here and have a lazy weekend. He's already been moaning because of the fact that he doesn't think there's enough choice of food!

Have good Saturdays' everyone x

Keep safe and well x

  • Thank you nmic for starting us off.

We have had an horrendous night. The wind sounds so angry and it has been howling all night. It will be a miracle if everything is standing where it should be.

Not a great deal planned for today thankfully. Will drop DGD1 off at the hairdressers and then she is meeting her sister and a friend for lunch. I did want to go to the garden centre, but I will wait to see if the weather improves.

I have a bit of washing to do but will wait and see.

It would be my Mum's birthday on the 8th, so going to the Crem on Sunday, and then the following week will take a wreath for her and Dad. I don't go nearly as often these days, but I know they wouldn't expect me to. Dad would say "what a waste of money" :):)

Have a good day and stay safe

  • Morning all. Another sleepless night for me but this time a flare up of the damned IC was giving me grief. I've been back on the COB Foundation website to see if anyone has come up with a miracle cure yet. Why is it so difficult to treat, despite research (they say!) going on for about 80 years or so. People seem to have more success using herbal/natural remedies but what works for one doesn't seem to work for another. I have spent a small fortune over the last two years but found nothing to help.

Anyway enough moaning from me, there are far more painful conditions out there. The gale outside is still blowing wildly and the rain battering the windows. There has been a wheelie bin crashing around in the road all night thanks to the stupid man over the road who insists on leaving his bins at the edge of the pavement permanently. Why he can't wheel them up the side of his house until collection morning I have no idea.

That's my second moan out of the way now sorry!!

I never got round to the Parsnip & Pear soup yesterday so that is simmering away this morning. Looking forward to tasting a bit when it's been whizzed. I need to go in town this morning - second consultation re the Swarowski decoration of the Converse boots for the two youngest DGDs. I am not relishing turning out in this weather. This afternoon I must resume the gift wrapping as the pile doesn't seem to go down! And it's not my most favourite job!

Have a good day all and I hope you don't have any storm damage. Come daybreak I'll have a better look outside and see if we have escaped. (((((HUGS)))))) to those wanting/needing them. Take care xx ps thanks LAINEY for your input on Kalms. May pop in H & B whilst in town and have a browse.

    Hi everyone,

I woke feeling a bit grim so I thought I'd do an early post - I often don't post because I get in here late and think it's a waste of time.

We went down to Kew last night for their Christmas event. We went with DD and her DH and DS and GF so that made my night as we don't often all get to go somewhere together. After the usual stresses of wondering if everyone would get there in time we really enjoyed it, although the food prices were a bit steep.

I've been good and cleaned a fair bit this week so that we can put a tree up today but I've also managed to finish a a baby quilt completely and get a Christmas quilt to the hand sewing of the binding stage so I'm feeling quite pleased with myself.

    Have a good day.

Our visitors arrived about 10ish last night, their son stayed with his grandma so that will make things a bit easier.
Hubby wants to go to the crem today to organise a memorial plaque I was hoping to dissuade him. I wish he would wait awhile & do it in the new year when his grief is less raw.
But since the family arranged to scatter the ashes on the one day we couldn't attend he feels the need to do something.
I have no plans myself for this weekend, I think my oldest son is visiting on Sunday (he forgot my birthday, lol) but apart from that it is just sorting out our visitors & deciding what hubby wants to do.
The house is tidyish so I'm hoping to get some crochet done.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

What a day yesterday, and now we are expecting Storm Desmond, straight after the first three. I'm hoping to get home in the early afternoon.

Didn't do much yesterday, it was very relaxing at mum's place. Didn't even go into town because the weather was so foul. I'll take mum shopping this morning and then head home.

TA - sorry you're still suffering. I've not got any answers for you, only bucket loads of sympathy.

Think I'll stay in bed until the sunrises though that may be a bit too long!

I hope everyone has a good Saturday.

Butterfly Brain I have all my Christmas films lined up ready to watch. I've never seen It's A Wonderful Life, I've been told it's a must-watch but also that's it really depressing so avoid at all costs :D

I didn't make it out of the door yesterday. Most of what was on my list was pet supplies, mr tru was going to Pets At Home for something so he said he'd pick the other stuff up too. It wasn't worth going into town for the few other things so I enjoyed a peaceful couple of hours alone instead :D I'd forgotten how easy it is to get things done without a dog following me around, lol. It would have been useful if mr tru had remembered the poo bags, flea and wormer though Roll_Eyes_Smiley_by_Mirz123_zpsfacaf1cf.gif But Tim (gecko) has a good supply of live bugs :D

Just a quick tidy-up to do and there's some washing to go on and that's it. I need to pop to the local shop, I'll take some money with me on our walk and hope I see someone I know to watch Scampi while I nip in – I don't want to have to come back home then walk back over there again, I find that really annoying :D

    Morning everyone,

Well it's not raining here it at the minute but there is a bright pink sky and the wind is getting up so guess the bad weather is in its way.

TA. - happy to help re Kalms, hope you find some kind of solution re sleeping and IC problem x

Went out for a meal last night with lovely couple, she and I worked together for five years but recently retired. We went to a local steakhouse which was just down the road to their house, nice meal and shared a bottle of wine, DOH drove bless him but we are out again next week with his lads so will return the favour then.

Today will need to do big catching up on chores as things have slipped a bit this week what with everything, the bed and towels need changing think will need the TD for the towels.

Did a bit of shopping yesterday so nothing needed there, tea tonight will be something quick like pizza after last night.

Hope everyone has a good day, stay safe in the storms folks xx

P.S. - thanks for the carol Tru am loving this :T x
  • Tru, love it, love it, one of my favourite carols.

You must watch its a wonderful life. When I was single and lived at home, Dad and I used to go through the Radio Times at Christmas to make sure it was on TV. It was our very favourite film ever, and of course we only had 3 channels in those days. Mum could never understand why we loved it so much, but we both loved James Stewart anyway.

I love Christmas films, and of course there are so many on now. Himself sits there in the chair sighing, but he does have his programmes on as well, NCIS, CSI, the Grand Prix, although last Sunday was the last for this season. He always ends a Christmas film with "and they lived happily ever after". He pretends to be bah humbug but he isn't really

    Morning All

What a rough night! It's rained now for hours and hours and the wind has been horrendous. Calmer now but apparently it's going to be worse again this afternoon.

Great carol again tru, slowly getting me in the mood! I have a list of jobs to do today, mostly cleaning and tidying ready for christmas guests, if I give everything a good clean now I will only have to have a quick dust and hoover round nearer the time.

Stay safe and warm, take care. XX
