in Credit cards
Hi all
My son has now got problems with his cards , He has some learning problems and is reg disabled gets DLA and incapacity benefit so not a great deal , He had a mobile phone with a good allowence on it but I have just found out due to companys ringing the house he used the mobile for chat lines and paid the very large bills with the cc .
I gave him money each month and ask were things ok to which he said yes
He has a contacted the consumer credit counselling service who are rining him on tuesday if he can't answer there question he will pass it over to me to deal with .
I thought i was helping him to be independant for when I am no longer here as there is no one else I seem to have made things worse .so I feel really bad

Has he got a social worker?
If not register him with your local social services now - that's what they are there for.
Whilst it won't help you with his debts short term it may be one less worry long term.
Would it be a good idea to take the card off him?
Do you sign on his behalf on his bank account?
If not get a third party mandate on his account to keep an eye on things.0 -
if he has some amounts he is struggling to pay, it might be worth posting on the debt free board for some help in making the payments.

Hi, Please don't feel bad. His independence is the most valuable thing he will ever own and that won't come without a certain amount of risk taking, so you shouldn't feel bad.
Companies who lend money have a duty to be responsible and it could be that the credit card company were not responsible (this would be dependent on your son's capacity to understand the terms and conditions of the agreement). If he doesn't have this capacity he should not have to pay. I have come across this situationa few times due to my job and in my experience lenders have backed right off when its pointed out to them that they have leant money to someone who didn't have the capacity to understand what they were getting themselves into.
Hope this helps
