Ordering online, use credit card or debit card?

What offers more protection for purchases and having your card details copied/cloned, debt card or credit card? Looking to order online and not used the website before, and very rarely use either to order or pay for stuff as most things I still use cash (I am very old skool)

Thanks in advance

I would use a CC if the purchase is over £100

My first option would be Paypal especially for orders under £100. They have a very easy to use dispute procedure. I've used it before to get a refund on fake goods before. Seller did not dispute. Paypal refunded and I got to keep the goods. They were so bad I had lots of fun destroying them.

My second option would be a credit card and especially for orders over £100 and finally a debit card.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Both offer chargeback protection: Visa, Mastercard & Amex Chargeback

CC offers Section 75 protection as well, but some companies charge extra for CC payments.
and having your card details copied/cloned
    No difference.

Not quite true... While the risk of having your details stolen is equal, if somebody runs up huge transactions on your CC, your money isn't impacted, the bank's is.

On a debit card, if they run up a huge bill on the day you were supposed to pay direct debits out and they bounce because of insufficient funds, you could find yourself in more of a pickle.

I use my CC more online, as if someone was going to steal and use my details, I'd rather it be on a credit card than a debit card.

Me too and I always use a CC for purchases if I'm not collecting the goods immediately ( for example carpets or furniture) just in case there's a problem between ordering them and actually receiving them.
A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.
