Royal Mail Compensation

I contacted Royal Mail because I heard nothing from them about my compensation claim for a lost parcel.
I had a receipt for posting.
Royal Mail said that as I had sent the parcel by Free Post (the supplier had provided a label) they did not have to provide compensation.
Is this true please?

You don't have a contract with RM so I can't see how you can claim compensation.0

Royal Mail gave me a receipt for my parcel over the Post Office counter and then they lost the parcel.
Presumably the supplier had paid them for the Free post labels.
I had not heard of the Royal Mail response before (it was a bit of a shock) and do not know the answer which is why I am asking.

The company that paid for the label has a contract with RM, not you. What have they said? Is there any tracking for the item?0

I don't know if freepost changes the situation but with RM and "standard" post, either the sender or the intended recipient can claim for lost, damaged or delayed mail providing that they can provide all of the information that RM require.0

In what way have you lost out?
I'm assuming you have some sort of contract with the company who paid the freepost label? If you were returning goods, your liability ended when their agent (RM) took possession of the goods. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
