I saw a while back in a post that liverpool victoria offer a 50% discount to new insurance policy holders, is that true? And how do you get it?

I've just passed my test so Id be greateful if someone could help me out with insurance. I'm male and 18 so the odds are against me!

Hi - sorry but nobody offers 50% discount at 18.The best you will do is up to 30% via the pass plus scheme.Look at their website for details.I expect your driving instructor offered it to you.The 6 extra lessons cost around £100.00 but could save you a lot more than that.Try Norwich Union Direct or AA for quotes. On NUD site go for a comprehensive quote with the maximum excess of £1000 as this is cheaper than their third party fire and theft prices.Works fine if you are insuring a car up to one litre worth less than £1000.00 as this is not worth insuring comprehensively anyway.NUD also offer 9 month policies with accelerated No Claim Discount and this is worth looking at.Ring them for all the details as pass plus discount is not given online. Also ring quoteline direct who arrange 6 month policies with one years ncd after 6 months. This ties you to renewing with the same company but this does spread the cost.

Unfortunately you are still looking at around £1200 for 12 months cover.

    Best of luck.
