Potentially Dun Goofed up (Royal Mail)

Hi, I want to post a parcel, can never get to the post office before it closes due to work, no probs.

Went only, bought a label (2nd class signed for) through paypal, just need to drop it off at post office.

BUT the label says post by end of tomorrow!! I cant post by end of tomorrow because it will be shut, and carrying the parcel to work is not an option.

I want to post on Saturday morning. If i was told that they wanted me to post by end of tomorrow I wouldnt have bothered.

Anyway, is this post by tomorrow thing another way of saying my label is invalid if I dont post it tomorrow?

Thanks guys

  • Yes, the labels are only valid until the end of the next working day. You can cancel the existing one, however, saying that you haven't used it, and they promise a refund within 28 days (so they can check it hasn't been used.) probably best to keep hold of the label just in case they ask you for it. You need to cancel and claim your refund within 7 days, I believe.

I would just post it, your post office won't even check the labels and it'll get there fine.

If you need to go to the Post Office anyway, printing labels is pretty pointless and your post office do not get paid for handling them, so if you need to make the effort to go to the Post Office pay for your postage there too.

Also be aware that when you printed the label the item was marked as dispatched so buyer will be expecting it probably today or tomorrow according to ebay estimates. buyers are now asked whether items arrive on time - according to the ebay time frame (which are stupidly tight) and all the 'no' responses will count against you.

  • Have you actually looked online to see if any post offices near you open late? There are quite a few around now that open until 8, the items don't get picked up until the next day but presume it would count as posted by for the purposes of the label?

I love these. People complained when our local PO was earmarked to close, M-F 9-5.30 Sat 9-1 with queues out the door most days, to be replaced with a 7 days a week 7am - 9pm opening and usually no more than 1 person in front of you. There are 2 more close by that are doing the same and the number of objections is staggering.

Cancel the label and re-purchase when you can post perhaps.
