Beware Budget Insurance .com - Current customers!

Options
I have my car insured with BudgetInsurance.com and so when it came to getting quotes for my wifes new car, I used the system as recommended by MSE...

Budget came out best and so I went to the website to pay. Each time I clicked on "Buy Now" it returned an error message, so I thought "gremlins" and called them the following morning.

It turns out, that although my wife was the proposer, it recognised my details (as a named driver) as a current customer and so would not honour the quote?!!

According to the CallCentre, they only give the "Introductory Discount" once, so if the same person has some insurance with them on a second policy, there is no discount on that policy.

I can also confirm that when they went through the details with me on the phone, the phone quotes are also 20% higher than on-line.

Ho Hum.

What is the problem exactly though? If it is in their T+C it all seems above board.
Phone quotes higher than online quotes is to be expected.

They do if you go through the Budget website but try:
    YESINSURANCE
    or
    DIAL DIRECT
You'll find they're both owned by
BISL Limited (REGISTERED IN ENGLAND NO. 3231094) REGISTERED OFFICE: BRETTON WAY, PETERBOROUGH, PE38BG
    And guess what?
BUDGET is a trading name of BISL Limited. Registered Head Office: Pegasus House, Bakewell Road, Orton Southgate, Peterborough, PE2 6YS. Registered in England No.03231094.

Those two don't recognise you as an existing Budget customer and will offer intro discounts presumably using the same insurers as Budget do.

Also suggest you try the insurers on quidco as some are offering big cashbacks which can make the premiums cheaper than those above.

Yeah but this is a fairly new practice in my experience

I know many people that will let their current insurance expire then get a new policy with the same company - via Quidco of course!!!
