The OH is old skool and has about 1000 CD's in the loft and wants a cd player for christmas (she's a 70's child haha).
Can you get portable, modern design CD players? Not the type with a carry handle, after something really modern looking, up to maybe £150 please?
Looks wise something like a portable bluetooth speaker, that plays CD?
Thanks in advance

Google the three words
CD Player Portable
and
CD Player Personal
Then before you settle on one add the word "reviews" to the list
EDIT: It throws up things like this around the £30 mark

Seconded.
It's a Sony too!
£117.99- Hear all your music loud and clear with the combined power of 20W from two full-range speakers.
- Play all your music from a smartphone or tablet by making a one-touch connection with NFC and streaming via Bluetooth
- Rediscover your CD collection with a top-mounted CD player or catch your favourite radio shows with an FM tuner.
- Get big sound from this space-saving Hi-Fi system. The CMT-X3CD delivers 20W of power across two audio channels, allowing the full-range speakers to deliver well-balanced audio - even when listening at higher volumes.
- Hear full-bodied, resonant bass - turn on the Mega Bass sound setting to experience enhanced low end tones.

^^ Actually, Amazon list £89.99 for the model in black. Though 'temporarily out of stock'.
The reason they claim to stock it at that price, is to compete with Currys, who actually do have at £89.99 here
Even Sony Direct and Argos sell it for £100, so don't think about paying more than that. One could conceivably include Currys three year replacement cover for the extra £25, to make it £115. But I wonder with what what they would replace it in the event of a mishap. Will they still have such a thing in stock?

Bit of an alternative way, but does OH have a PC with CD drive? If so, get some speakers, or even a bluetooth speaker if it has bluetooth. Longer term project could then be to rip the collection of CDs into mp3 files. I did that with my (considerably smaller) collection of CDs. Now have around 2000 CD tracks taking up about 5GB on a USB stick, which I can plug into my sound system, as it has a USB slot on it.
