Please help me sort out my computer probs - HJT added

Options
Hello everyone and thank you for the advice on this forum. I have a number of issues I need to resolve, but the first and most important is the infection I appear to have acquired.

I apologise in advance for lack of technical knowledge, but I am prepared to listen and can follow clear instructions.

I have followed the advice on the malware/spyware removal guide, which has not yet resolved the problem, so my first question is regarding the number of user accounts on my pc.

I have 5 user accounts, when I reboot into safe mode I also get an administrator account. Should I repeat the process 5 times (through each account), or can I run the scans through the administrator account? If so, how do I access the administrator account before I go into safe mode? For example ccleaner has only downloaded to the original account used.

I hope this makes sense and someone can help.

  • well 1 of ur answers. ccleaner will be installed throughout the PC just no shortcuts in the menus for it.

also if u do it on one account u wont need to do it on the others.

u can access the admin account before u login (if u have xp pro) before u click on a name to login hit ctrl+alt+delete a couple of times and will bring up a diff login box. type in administrator and your password and that will log you into it.

what types of probelms are u having as such?

and if u run hijack this (DONT delete anything) and post the log here we can help

    Thanks for the reply.

You will no doubt be famliar with my problem which relates to AV systemcare. I had never heard of it before, but this site has enlightened me!

I will run the scans again and post a log later.
  • systemcare is spyware.

just take all spyware thing off ur PC.

    just use

    antivir (for antivirus)

    ccleaner (keep ur pc tidy)
    and

    hijack this (keep spyware down)

    thats all i use.

use of them 3 tools will virtually rid ur pc of everything.

I have been trying to get rid of this spyware for a few days.

I have run the first 4 scans twice and have now completed the Panda Active Scan. This shows a number of items not disenfected, together with an option to pay in order to disenfect. I assume that this is not advised.

Should I post these items now or move on to the housecall scan?
  • Scan with this:

    http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

It's one of the best AVs.

Thanks Toxteth, but I had already started the next scan before I saw your reply and I would like someone to look at my hijack this report before I start scanning again.

The spyware will not go away. I am constantly receiving popups telling me to download AVsystemcare.

Any advice on this would be gratefully received:

silly question i know, but have you made sure system restore is switched OFF before you have done your scans? It may be hiding in your restore files

follow this first to remove AVsystemcare

    Please download SmitfraudFix

Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd

Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new hijack log.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
